We, the people on 3.55cfw are waiting for new homebrew, apps and such. We don't need 3.60cfw, people that updated to 3.60 are dumb. As long as devs release new stuff for 3.55cfw, the scene will not die. With the awesome power of the PS3, we could really get some great homebrew, but the scene is all about bragging rights, noobs asking for 3.60cfw and credit card theft.

I could agree with you, BUT how can the scene strongly survive if with 3.55cfw we are not able to play the new PS3 Games, like Portal 2, Sinper Ghost Warrior,and lots of other games that will come out from now, original game or not.

This is sad... I cant see so much future in the PS3 scene, if they dont find a way to play these games (with or without 3.60cfw).

this is gonna bea huge flop, they r taking out new consoles now? and they expect people to buy them, and the new generation consoles are just around the corner. Nintendo has already announced Wii 2 for 2012 and will be unveiled and playable in 2011's E3. That means microsoft and sony has also geared up for the new consoles. I think sony should just put all this behind them and concentrate on making the new consoles rather than trying to fix the old one. Nintendo, Microsoft have already started and sony is gonna f**k it up yet again, with insane prices, late releases and not to mention the lies *cough* motorstorm *cough*....

I agree, the only way I think sony could even have a chance at a new slim ps3 console, is either one of two things. They could make it a new slimmer design, all the rich people buy those the first day, just to say they have them (all my friends who live in mill houses get the newest **** on the first day it comes out) plus the hardcore gamer may get it if it looks "cooler", or if they some how brought back ps2 compatibility, that can't be too hard to do these days. Both are probably unlikely and we all know sony sucks, so will probably get stuck with the same water down **** they keep giving us, then taking away.

What is sad is that you think that the ps3 scene relies on the ability to play game back ups as its only motivation? What happened to innovation? The scene for me is about the extra things you can do with your ps3. I've been following the scene from the start and personally have chosen to not run cfw on my ps3. Although FBAnext almost tempted me. I'm happy with my ps3 and happy what others can do with their own ps3s.

Seriously, we knew that this was going to happen some day be it new ps3 hardware revision or via the next Playstation... ps4, 5, 6 etc...

Although it appears as a slim on the outside the key is what is the inside but yes the image looks dodgy.

this is stupid and a complete waste on money. the only way this would prevent hacking consoles (or at least delay it) is if they went door to door forcedly replacing them. seriously, if one wanted a hacked console, all they would have to do is buy a hackable version.

Nah, I think you're a bit naive about that. Come on of course Sony has the next gen planned. The expected life cycle of the ps3 is 10 years and we're already 5 years into that, but yes the next gen will come sooner, if not in the next 18-24 months. If you look back at the PSone and PS2 both very successful consoles and both lasted longer than most expected. Hell, the PS2 is still selling today. It has a lot of great title and appeals to people that cannot afford a ps3. I think the high price point at the start got the ps3 off to a bad start. We'll probably see the next gen ps released and a high price too based on the latest tech in the future. Bring on the 8th generation.

Sony can't do that, it's already too late. What is done is done and they can only produce new hardware to protect their baby until they are ready to roll out the next gen console.

Clearly as history projects, the PS3 community needs more, like dual-boot PS3 OFW/CFW.. I dont see this happening anytime soon or ever, but it is an idea.. I am sure its not impossible, just improbable.. The way i see it, the PS3 hack sceen is not dying, just at a stalemate.. Eventually a dev will get bored enough and start quoting from Shakespeare, "Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war":joystick1:.

so instead of focusing on the issue at hand (PSN being down) they are focusing on building a new console! That makes alot of sense!

sony have had a pritty bad year so far ! everything seems to be unfolding now lol. They could make a new ps3 secure to custom firmware etc if they changed the signing keys for the firmware, and the metlr key or whatever its called and then issue 2 sets of firmware updates, one for the old ps3's with the old signature, and a completely different signature/encryption for the new ps3's. But It will still be hackable as everything on the new ps3 will be on the old ps3 where we have a little bit more access . the new ps3 as some of you have mentioned will have to be backward compatible with the keys used on current games and even the bluray discs themselves. so If we could get the key to sign bluray discs as genuine discs (if it doesn't sign them in places a normal bluray recorder cant write too) then we can make an exploit or even play our "backups" from that thus rendering sony's new unhackable ps3, hackable

Perhaps Sony should make the CECH-3001A/B with PS1/2 emulation with atleast 160GB HDD. Then make PSN only accessible with a CECH-3001A/B. All previous models will no longer access the PSN. Everyone should receive prepaid shipping boxes to trade in their out dated consoles at NO CHARGE.

I bought my original 60GB PS3 back in April 2007. Oct 2010 it finally died. Sent it to Sony hoping to get the same $600+ console back but was sent a refurbished same model. Seemed like a waste of $600. So if the new models coming out here supported PS1/2 games I wouldnt care anymore to upgrade.

Reason I say they should do away with older models is if these new models are what they say they are. Then maybe we can finally play CoD4 online again. Sure CFW is cool and all. Pirating games so you dont have to spend so much money and all that. But cheating on games is sad. My PS3 is on OFW 3.60 because when I first seen all this you couldnt have CFW and be on PSN. That's my PS3's main job. Online gaming. Namely CoD(SnD). Let's hope the new PSN doesn't end up costing. Quit suing people. Everyone makes mistakes. s3up:

I really dont see how they are going to make it unhackable for it processes data does it not.

Theres always a way and yes well it may look exsactly like a ps3 slim and isnt that a good idea saves money if it fits into old casing means they dont have to make a whole new casing for there new hardware revision.

Even if they tried to make it secure hardware wise like the xbox 360 then that got j tagged so lol.

Theres a few devs looking into how the ps3 blu ray drives work hell you can even change the regions.(or get anydvd hd to do it for you lol)

It is the more expensive way but blu ray writers(for pc) being around 200 dollars here
and blu ray disc being about 6 to 8 dollars for a single layer more for double I wouldnt mind having to burn games.

Anywho its back to the waiting games for everyone asking for a 3.60 firmware that wont happen until this new machine is out and I think devs have said that because they dont know how the new console will be it may come with a completely new firmware say like 3.61 so then making a 3.60 firmware would be useless and they have to see if theres any new security checks hardware/software.

If people really want to play portal 2 so much why dont you get a steam account most moderate computers can play the game so you dont need a power house hell mostly any direct x 9 graphics card will do if your worried about graphics.
