Hello all. I just finished installing my digital stealth dimmer into my GBA. I wanted to do something else before attempting to mod my ps2 so i decided to do this.

(thats an example install... mine looks like that)
anyway, the problem i encountered was actually not the soldering... it was stripping the wires! it sometimes took me 3 times to get it  so i was wondering if theres an easier way to strip them.. any suggestions?

Hi
I tried using nail clipper .. very difficult to get the insulation off of those kynar wires.
My resolution was to use the hot soldering iron to melt the insulation then clip the resulting wire to length.
The side benefit of this is that you tin the wire at the same time ;)

i was using a nail clipper too! :p i tried melting the insulation with a candle, but some still remained so i deemed that a very bad idea.
@loy what type?
30W soldering iron is good for all those wires. just strip and tin and ready to go.

i dont understand how you guys are suggesting to strip and tin at the same time. wont the insulation get mixed with the solder or something? or am i totally misunderstanding this?
the insulation can't get mixed it'll simply burn off but be aware of the fumes. first u burm the insulation then u tin it

if you teeth people are serious... [i hope i'm not being gullible] but, arn't the wires too thin to strip with your teeth? i mean, the space between the top and bottom rows of my teeth is too large....

Then you probably need braces, I'm also a teeth guy.

do you strip the wires with your front teeth or your molars
ok tuturial 1 stick wire between teeth 2 bite down and grind 3 pull and theres your wire. I am not resonsible for chiped loosen or lost of tooth

You use your front teeth. Just like a civil war soldier did to tear the package of power. (your history lesson for today is brought to you by PBS.....for godsake give us money)

ok this discussion has prompted me to draw a diagram....
notice that the wire is too thin, thats just how my teeth are
lol nice diagram. But seriously if u plan to mod consoles for a living i'd advise to get a stipper. Wouldn't cause any teeth damage

LOL ... love the diagram... I am telling you.. the teeth method is an aquired skill.. comes from teenage years of changing car stereos all the time and not being able to find the strippers!

Actually I got it from my legos. Alot of them you can't take apart unless you use the teeth.

LOL yea I def. know the legos thing. Just stick between a set of your front teeth, bite down, and pull. LOL works real easy and faster than fumbling w/ the stripper.

hahahah @ legos thing. i used to do that too. :D
