I'm a newb at PS2 but not mods in general ...

Bought an 8wire chip from www.etmdirect.co.uk and got the swap magic disks.

I've checked wires 1, 2, 3, 4, 7,8 and they all look fine (I'm a pretty good solderer)

5 and 6 have been resoldered (3 times) and I'm sure that's all fine as I can pick the motherboard up from each wire - so it's a good joint. Plus they were tinned correctly. The wires are not touching anything else (these are the wires by the DVD cable)

No wires are joined together when they shouldn't be

Originals work fine
Audio CDs work fine
CDR backups work fine (with swap magic)

I haven't got a DVDR backup to work

If I power off PS2 with Swap Magic DVD disk in (and keep power button pushed as suggested), and then let it say insert disk, then let go of the power button, it doesn;t eject ... but I'm damn sure that wires 5 and 6 are attached correctly. I could be wrong - but am convinced ...

Obviously if I eject at this screen, then put it in, I get a red border.

My PS2 is a UK PAL v3 - I've heard that some of these have problems ?!??

I know it's unlikely to be the disk ... but this does have problems loading sometimes ??!

Could it be the wires?

Any help appreciated

Cheers

As you know, you must have the "hold reset to eject function"to boot DVDR.
So there must be a problem with pins 5 and 6.

Did you get it to auto eject at any stage?

Dont forget the cap on sce line.

So U rekon it's definately 5 & 6 then?
Any way I can tell which one - I'm sure they're OK ?!??

Any alternative solder points (perhaps closer to the DVD)?

Cap was already wired to chip

It's never auto ejected. At first it didn't eject at all. Now it only ejects when you push eject

Any way of testing 5 & 6??

OKay - just put a multmeter from 5 then 6 (on chip) to row of legs on IC near where 5 and 6 solder to - Both only get a contact on one pin each ... implying to me that the circuit is good.

Make sense?

If I'd acidently joined legs on this IC together (which I don;t think is the problem, but solder was splashed (althugh I did clean it up)) what that screw something up.

So confused.

Check this site out http://www.chipzone.com/installation/playstation2/playstation2_us/page1.cfm

Use a multimeter to bell the points out.

Are you holding reset for long enough

Do you really need DVDR function!

Will check that site out cheers
Will use multimeter to check points - but I rekon they're OK anyway
I've held reset for ages - will try longer
I do need a DVDR function

Cheers for your help mate

Any alternative points would also be appreciated
