I burnt the sharkport cd, and bought a 3meters usb-usb cable, but the software on the pc keeps saying "error connecting to ps2"
the cd boots normaly in the ps2 (and waits). Do I need a special cable?
I noticed some distortion on the tv when the cable is connected and a light humm in the speakers.

you need a PC to PC USB cable, a regular male/male cable will not work and can damage your system I think, at least it can damage PCs. PC to PC USB cables have components in the middle to deal with things.
something like this might work:

I heard someone said you need a PC to PC USB cable with PL-2301 chipset in the middle. Like this one:

For as much as your paying out for just those cables. You could get a Sharklink/Xport for $29.99 have the cd and the link cable. Why would you just keep buying cables trying to find the right one? That might work with computer and ps2. To much BS to go thru all that and a waste of money. Xport/Sharklink are compatable with one another and they are compatable with the Gameshark/Action Replay 2. The new Gameshark 2 version 3 is a blatant rip off of the Codebreaker 6. Gameshark 2 version 3 will NOT WORK with a Xport/Sharklink or a usb keyboard like the older versions of Gameshark.

I'm from Croatia and it's not so easy for me to buy that things. For instance, I wanted to buy Xport and one (only one if I want to be exact, at least on their web page they said that they had it) store had it, but when I came to buy (the price was about 55$) they said that they had only few of them and that it didn't sell how they expected them to sell, so they don't have them any more and they won't have them again, ever.
Can you believe tahat you can't buy non-sony ps2 memory card in Croatia. I think that I went thru all PS2 stores (in our capital city), which actualy isn't that much, there are about 5 of them. And they only have Sony mem cards, PS2 remotes, vertical stands, games, game controlers and that's it, nothing advanced.
And if I order it online I would pay double price when it passed thru our customs office. I speak from my experiance, they charged me 30$ for MY palm handheld when it came back from repair in Germany.

A USB network cable (with a chip in the middle) just works fine. I have no problems anymore...

My cable has a blue plastic box in the middle and has "SMC EZ usb connect cable" printed on it. Sorry yours doesn't work. Have you installed the drivers for X-cable?

That was it :)
Stupid me :D , I installed drivers that came with the cable and of course it didn't work :), I just remebered that there are some drivers with Sharkport 2 for PC, and I installed them and now it WORKS!!!
Funny thing is that it works better with X-port PS2 CD than Sharkport CD (when I changed the memory card it couldn't read it, but I have no problems with X-Port)
Huge thanks to all who helped me !!
