dvd-r burner question

hi i'm new to dvd recording and i would like to know what is the difference between a dvd-r burner and a dvd+r burner. i know that tyou can only dvd-r dvds in a dvd-r burner and the same with dvd+r but is there anything else different between the two and which one is better for movies and ps2 game. thank you
