too bad i don't have a ethernet adapter...
where is it needed for anyway? (ok, i know they won't support loading files from cd for now because a PS2 -not chipped of course :D- cannot play CD-R's...)
damn, this looks like a real cool app to have :D

Wow, I got a sticky! Go me! hehehe... Is it too late to yell out 'FIRST POST U LOOSERS!!!11' or do I have to create another topic for that? :p
Anyway, I've made a few postings on their forums, but I've yet to get a reply, and it's been 6 days. I hope those boys are just too heavy into their work to browse the forums or something like that, otherwise I'mma think all my brainpower thinkin them suggestions for it was for naught  :arg:
But seriously, good to be back in X's forums... even if they arn't just X's forums now, heh... I've been coming to xiaNaix's site since he was hosted way back on redrival (Which, btw, still hosts some of the files for the Gameshark for PSX. EDIT: Nope, it's gone now. Ah well.)
And I hope he'll stay around; Still one of the best 'boards in the 'scene'. I've not noticed too many l4m3rz and lusers so far, unlike most of the other boards (many of which are apparently hosted by l4m3rz and lusers; probably that's the reason they're attracted... Like bugs to a bugzapper...  )
Until next post! Same bat-nick, same bat-forum.

well, not really :p
i would've done it maybe if you don't need a CD-Key to make it work... (it checks it, it checks file updates & updates them)
therefore the CD-Key might get invalid (i don't want that you know ;))
i'm still waiting for that fucking network adapter to arrive

don't get me wrong... this seems to be very cool... but.. wouldn't it make as much sense to just use the TV out from u'r PC? Unless you already had wireless LAN in your house... i don't see how this can be useful.

1. i don't have tv-out
2. i wanna watch on the telly downstairs, and i don't want to move the pc downstairs, just to start the movie (you'll need to navigate thru windows with ur mouse, could be hard if you're upstairs and not in front of the tv
3. my pc can't decode divx movies very well...
therefore it's a nice app for me :p

all this shite does is stream the video
it would be smarter to get ur ass down to EB, but a TNT/Geforce 3d Card And use the TV Out Along With Some Bad Ass Speakers or AUX -> A Extention cables from Radio Shack!
it would be worth the money too!
I just shit on this divx player:(

1,2,3, to set everything up... can't say that with replacing my video/audio devices in my PC and connect the right cables and all the stuffs...

I just got a network adapter for $30. Even though my PC is fully capible of playing DIVX files at full speed, and not even using full CPU power, I'd much rather use my PS2, which is right next to the PC to play them, both are hooked up to the stereo, but this way it's not on my main screen so I can be watching love hina right now and still post this. Which I'm doing. Heh.
Qcast is great, I'm really liking it a lot, my current favorite use for it is playing mp3s while I play UT2003... Barely any CPU usage on the PC, and no bandwidth issues since I've got a 100mbit switched fullduplex network anyway, I'm watching love hina now, and From Dusk till dawn next...
So far, about 4 of my many divx files havn't worked, and two of those are so b0rked even the PC won't play them, the other two don't have MP3 audio tracks (which Qcast tuner requires at the moment...)
Oh, and to put some rumors to the chopping block:
The PC doesn't do any of the decoding at all, all it does is serve files over the network. The PS2 does all the work. The Server software is written in java, and I've personally tested it in OSX, Win XP and 98SE, and Linux, and they all work great, even sharing CD-ROM drives! (I've got a lot of divx files on CDR)
The way Qcast Tuner works:
The PS2 CD provided is just a simple network loader. none of the actual video or mp3 decoder software is on the PS2 CD. You pop the CD in, it allows you to set it's IP address up, and such, and then it downloads the entire player software from the computer, which allows updates. And there's been a LOT of updates in the week or two that it's been out, a lot of fixes, and a lot of progress! :D So if you're having qualms about paying $50 for a dud peice of software, don't worry! It's going to be updated for quite a long time, I forsee, and it even comes with a copy of Snapstream PVR! That's another $50 value right there! (I use Showshifter myself, since I don't have a compatible tuner to use Snapstream with...)
Who knows, in the future, BroadQ may even support USB TV tuners, the PS2 harddrive, and encoding divx files! So show them your support, and hop on their forums and tell them what ya want! You just might get it! :D
Fooniman: A $39 broadband adapter and free beta software is a much better investment, imo... Radio shack sells the cables you're talking about for about $19.95 for 6 feet (EEK!) and a TNT2/Geforce card with TV out will run more than the broadband adapter, I'm willing to bet...
besides, If I was going to spend money on a new video card, I'd get a compro Personal Cinema Geforce 3/4 card...
(I wish I could afford the nearly $500 for the Compro Personal Cinema Geforce 4 TI 4600 AGP 8X... *siiigh*
I'd probably end up with the Geforce 3 TI 200 for $149...)
If I buy a new nVidia card, it will most definitey have a TV-Tuner in it... unless I get a nForce2... which then I'd pick up the first AGP 8X Personal cinema card later on...
hehehehe...
Okay, signing off another f--kin' long post
Same bat-forum, same bat-nick.

I thought it looked like a good idea, but my PC has a tv out so it would be a bit unneccessary. Nice luxury, for the internet tv channels, but i live in the middle of nowhere, can't even get broadband here! (Nearest place I've heard has it is 20 minutes away) I'll wait till there's a usable player I can burn straight on to disk.

there was news of it in the front page from ps2reality or whatever, i hope they really are working on a divx player that plays off of cd. and i hope that it supports better resolutions and bitrates than qcast. that would be too awesome.

It seems like the PS2Reality mediaplayer will be released in
7 days 6 hours and 54 minutes. They have put a timer at their site here: http://mediaplayer.ps2reality.net/
At least I hope that's what it means;)

If you've got a DVD burner--get a copy of "Movies to CD/DVD" by Magix. I got a copy on sale at Circuit city months back for $20. I think normal retail is $40. This will import ANY video format that your PC has a CODEC for. It even supports DV import over firewire and all. If you have a DivX player, it will import DivX streams. If you have an MPEG4 player (ie the new MS Media Player) it will import the movie directly. It will even import .vob's directly. The only snag is there is a source file size limitation of 2GB (can't have us directly copying DVD5's, now can they?..hehe).
If you only have a CD-RW, you can have the output split into multiple VCD or SVCD CD-R's as well--complete with menu and scene selections.
This is an awesome little proggie. With a little trimming on the audio data rate (MP3) and a little tweaking on the DivX quantization settings (Medium compression), I can get a DVD-9 to fit on a DVD-5 with almost no loss in quality with DivX 4.12--and they play on ANY DVD Player or DVD capable console.
