Thnx for the quick reply.... keep us all posted(pardon the pun). also I have another question, but not to sure if it should be asked... I have asked this once in the newsgroup that I frequent, and Balto has once replied. But there are lot of games that are DVD-ISO's that get posted in isonews... I think you know what I am getting at...

Greetings and salutations!

Glad you dropped by and I hope you'll hang around. As for your question, I wish I had an inside track too, but unfortunately, I have to rely on the newsgroups and BBV too.

If I was smart, I'd get a part-time job at Electronics Boutique or Funcoland or something... :)

See you in the group, eh?

it's ok for you guichi, knowing what your first language is.

you can play vcds and stuff on the ps2 but convertinging all teh files to a .pss file, but it's long a tedious and not worth the trouble.

Hi!, nice Forums. I'm mavy from PS2reality.net, one of the main programers of the divx player for PS2. The project is stopped now because I'm doing my university exams. We will continue it, and I hope to release a """"beta"""" without sound. We are trying to optimize using vu's (we have yuv2rgb with vu0 macrocode/vu1 microcode) and I was trying to do the idct on vu's too.

If some of you find some code related to divx decoding, optimized for MIPS multimedia instructions or vu's (hardly), make a call!

We will release the source code with the beta, too. No date for release, because we want to get more resolution. I'm having trouble with some divx encoded at high resolution or bitrate, but the player is still , in his major part, "C" coded. And we think that if we would to get more bitrate/resolution we must change all the code and rebuild it to match the PS2 architecture.

If someone want make an attempt, take xvid opensource decoder/encoder and for divx3 take the source code from dreamcast divx player.

Thanks,
From Spain, mavy .

Guichi sorry for my English :p

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!

God I hope they can get it working!

Got an @$$ of VCD's for my brother, and they won't run in his dvd player. He's too @#$#@$ tight to plunk $70 down on a new one that plays VCD off CDR. I would gladly buy a player for the PS2 so I wouldn't have to copy everything over to VHS. Contemplating buying him a new DVD player anyway, but hey....save a buck or two on the PS2 version instead!!!

Here's a link to a French site. It has a lot of stuff relating to DivX and DVD.
http://www.dvddezone.com/boite.html

Under the Drivers section is a link to a program that claims to be a VCD and DivX player for PS2.

Viewing the readme file(it's in English), it says that all you do is load the CUE into your favorite burning prog and burn the BIN to a CD. However, it says that the CD requires you to either have a modchip or some boot cd. Either way, I don't have a burner and I've been jaded by so many stupid people claiming everything, so here's why I'm posting:

I want someone who does have a burner or even better, one of you super-tech PS2 people to look at this thing and tell me if I have indeed found a player for the PS2.

If it's true, I want someone to find a way to make the CD self-bootable(the readme says it's not).

So, go to it, folks!

Ok, curiosity kills the cat, right.......I just had to check it out.

Looked it up in ISO Buster, and it is written in Mode 1, Joliet, 2044 KB/Sector.

What a boon! Who knows, it might actually work----if "Da Expert" had taken the time to write it for the right layout! Come on guy, at least get it in Mode 2 or something!
