PAL releases will be in black and white on an NTSC ps2.
is the solution to buy a multistandard tv, or are most ps2 releases available in both formats?

thank you

PAL releases played on a NTSC machine will suffer from constant screen roll (50Hz scan rate (PAL) vs. 60Hz scan rate (NTSC).) It's NTSC releases played on a PAL machine that suffer from the lack of colour. There is NO multi-standard TV available in the USA or Canada to my knowledge - only in Europe and elsewhere overseas.

And yes, typically popular mainstream games are released in both formats, PAL and NTSC, although not always on the same date. Sometimes the NTSC version gets released first and other times the PAL version gets released first...

I have a no-swap NTSC PS2 modded with the Apple chip, and PAL games work on it, but it is in black & white when playing on my NTSC TV. I don't have the constant screen scroll problem that Balto mentions.

You can buy a multi-system TV here in the US, but because it is grey market, it will cost you a premium. You can usually find them being sold by the electronics places located in New York City. Some of them do have websites.
