hi again lol,
can i do a cog method swap with a dvdr, i am using a vivastar dvd'r and an original dvd rom , will this work or not.

yes, as long as teh original dvd is of a higher TOC

thanks gazdaman, but all i get is a squeaking noise ive tried various different dvd'rs but no joy :-( it then goes back to the start screen, any ideas ???

A good portion of your success is dependent on what brand of DVD-R blanks you're using. It's been noted time and again that cheap generic media and Princo media consistantly cause failures to load, skipping, and freezing.

Brands known to work correctly are Pioneer, Verbatim, TDK, Imation, and Apple.
If you can sock the money away, a good modchip like the Messiah is truly the way to go in the long run.

thanks for all the advice, i am now saving for a messiah, but im terrified of soldering it myself (i had a heart condition doing the plugmod's single wire lol).
i have a scph 30003 uk model that i bought way back in july last year so im guessing its an earlier model, but this doesnt matter with this new chip does it ??
anyway ill be glad to get it sorted as ive quite a good collection of original's and i wanna put my pioneer a03 to good use.

If you doubt your soldering skills, I highly recommend that you have an experienced pro install it.

As you're in the UK, consider sending Charlie_ps2 a Private Message for a recommendation on an installer near you (unless Charlie wants to make some public recommendations for the UK folks.)
BTW, Charile is also an EXTREMELY reliable source to obtain a Messiah from once you've gathered enough shillings together... ;)

thanks balto, mucho appreciate all the advice, and lets hope the price of the messiah drops a little as more units sell, as with the install aswell its getting pricey.
