USBadvance has been modified and now it's possible to load PS2 backups installed on HDD USB.
PS3 MUST BE backwards compatible.
(Sorry if that has already been mentioned, I didn't see anything...)
This is possible thanks to Ifcaro and friends.

Now we just gotta hope they find a way to do the same with esr and we'll be rolling ^_^ since usbadvance has blah on compatibilty. But This is a good sign, looks to be like the first sign of any exploitation on the ps3 at all. *prays for ULE install method*

Do you need to use Swap Magic every time, or is it just for the first time setting this up?

You need to use it everytime, Because the ps3 needs to be in PS2 mode inorder to read it, and until now there isn't any other way to do that, so You need to have a real origional swapmagic disc.

Yeah, those bastards need to adress LAZER LIFESPAN, before they can challange usba's legality of enduse. If your lazer is blown out, which PS2's are so infamous for doing, it might be the only way you can still use them at all. I have couple of friends currently doing just that, I wont have anyone giving up money to a company I dont like, when they shouldnt have to, and now, dont need to.
You know they design them to to that on purpose. They just guestimate how long it'll take you to buy too many games NOT to have a working console, and thats how long the thing will last, so you have to keep buying consoles, if you want to sue the investment you have in games. They COULD just build better hardware, but they wont, why should they, when this way, they can take us for a whole bunch more money?
I just wish someone would patch up USBA to include compatability mode selectsbility, like HDL, that puts a huge limitation on compatability, that should be fixed, somehow.
Does anyone know which PS3 versions are backwards compatale? I avoidied buying one, since everyone warned me that they were not, although the officailly released owners maual I downloaded clearly said they were, and outlined the virtual memory card drama, but I'm getting bored, and the prices have come down, expecially if you are cruising pawnshops like I will be, searching for the right versions, that have not been "updated" with new and improved "uslessabilty" features. "Improved Incompatibility Features" ... I need a new, funny, catchword for when they do that, woking on it.
Sometime, just for a hoot, read the "Magic Gate" compatablitiy disclaimer on the back of your ps2..., "does not nessesarily imply compatability", thats just funny as hell, isnt it?

as far as i have read the only PS3 with backwards compatability is the original 60G version.

You want to know what sucks? I knew a guy who had one the very first week they came out, he won it from a radio promotion, entirely on accident, believe it or not, I just didn't want to jump in too quick, and he deserved full price, which he got, now I'm kicking myself for that... and I can kick really hard, too. I watched the PS2 versions advance starting from 4, and looking inside one of every one of them, I should have known better than to pass one of the very first ones, ready to mess with it or not, full release price or not, just because I could. OWWWWCHHH.
Given that those were really hard to come by, store campers and all that, and that they cost sony twice as much to build as they sold for, I read, I just should have. Damn.
I hate when that happens.
Anyone have an actual SCPH number? I suspect that there is more than one 60gb version, you have to be on it with these things, there must be a hundred different ps2 machines that have nothing in common except that they play original ps2 discs. And they're made by at least a half dozen makers that I know of, too. And you know what those have in common? They were the loswest bidders.

Well, tried the closest pawnshop to where I live, within walking distance, "Pawn Stars", from tv, which is a funny coincidence, I've been buying stuff from them for years. They don't have any PS3's at all, and they wouldnt let me se their samurai sword, since it's actualy David Carradine's, but I colect those myself, and nobody without substantial professional swordsmanship training actually has any business touching one, anyway. I personally have 4 years of Iado, and 3 years of Kendo, and I still managed to give myself another 7 stitches polishing one of my own, just last week. Notice my posting: I never leave typos, but I am doing so quite a bit, now, I can't feel anything in 2 fingers on my left hand, anymore, but I'm not complaining, I am happy that I can still move them, severed nerves is acceptable, severed tendons are another matter, entirely.
Appearantly, 7 years of professional training wasn't nearly enough.

That sucks man. I thought they had special chain-mail gloves or something you can wear when you're messing with that stuff.
