View Full Version : Bootable ULE disk to install Free MCBoot?

:wow:I think I read enough this site for 3 days straight now its time to hear my voice before I go crazy :)

Im attempting to install FMCB 1.5 to my 8mb MC

*I tried AR Max EVO method to install the FMCB 1.5 but I only end up in the AR Media Player, the screen freeze when I play the SM3.8.ELF <-- the 4.4MB file, Swap Magic splash screen wont show. (no luck in this method I give up)

*Codebreaker (not a chance)

*Swap Magic 3.8 bootable disk method (done) same result as using ULE bootable disk BSOD after succesful installation of FMCB

renaming the FMCB.ELF to SMBOOT0.ELF into SWAPMAGIC folder USB stick could get better result.

*ULE bootable CD disk 4.16 (I dont know if this method is ok because I dont see any tutorial related in the site)
If you want to make bootable ULE CD disk heres the link
http://home.casema.nl/eugene_plotnikov/en/installation-bootablecdr.html#id4783410
or If you want newly made ULE 4.17 see Attached file

-I loaded Swap Magic 3.8 ELF this time seems to work fine (USB stick)
With the renamed FMCB.ELF inside the SWAPMAGIC folder which is now SWAPMAGIC.ELF (USB stick)
select SMBOOT select SMBOOT0 but nothing happen (reset console)

Ill rename FMCB.ELF to SMBOOT0.ELF later (done) I think this method works better than renaming it to SWAPMAGIC.ELF

I think this method is not needed when your using ULE system so I dont wanna go further.

-I loaded directly the FMCB.ELF and wow it works (USB stick) this is my last hope atm

I REFORMAT my MC with the FMCB functionality to make sure everything is fresh.
Doing Normal install to my MC... Free McBoot Installed sucessfully ! YAY!
Pressed triangle to turnoff PS2
I remove the ULE bootable disk and keep my USB stick because it has mass:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF in case of auto boot
Turn on the console but the screen seems flickers BSOD Turn on again but same thing happen,
So booted with ULE disk this time I copied the BOOT.ELF from USB stick to mc0:/BOOT/ folder, reset but same thing happen screen flckers repeatedly BSOD I cant remove my MC at this point it could damage my MC so I turn it off
I remove my MC and my PS2 starts to boot normally (sigh.. I thought I had it)
So booted the ULE disk again and check my 8mb MC it has 7.7mb free
I mark all the 3 folder to get size it contains only 113.3k inside my MC
Wheres the 1.6mb DVDELF.bin that everybodies talking about? OSDMAIN.ELF only contains 75k the only biggest file inside my MC after I installed the FMCB
No DVDELF.bin inside my MC

My USB stick that time has label Im going to remove it later maybe it will increase its compatibility (done) I think its better to remove tha label

Im going to add BOOT1.ELF later (done) Its better to have this one in your USB stick just in case because I cant rename inside ULE system

You don't need to have a 1.6MB-DVDELF.bin.
Instead, you have a Mini-DVDELF.bin (DVDPLx). <-- You can see, that your OSDMAIN.ELF (or how it is named by you) is only ~74KB big.
If it is successfully installed (seems like it is), just place a file you want to boot to mass as "RESCUE.ELF".
It starts, like the first exploits (ever, if found).
It directly loads the ELF, without pressing a button.
All other features are also disabled, while this (no CNF-, Buttonlaunch-, Fastboot-, ... -Support.) <-- 1st search, before all other, so THIS IS, what N00bs should use, if they wouldn't mess around with higher levels of the exploit.

So,...

Copy BOOT.ELF to the same dir, where the installer is and re-execute the installer, or just copy an ELF as "RESCUE.ELF" to the root of your USB-Stick (needs 1.5 FMCB to work, else you need an other method).

Btw.: You maybe should leave some information, regarding your PS2-Hardware (i.e.: SCPH-Number,...).
I assume it is a slim, or you embedded your own DVDPLx, without knowing it. ^^

I see so all I have to is to copy the BOOT.ELF where the installer of FMCB.ELF is and re-execute the installer maybe this should do the trick. (how come tutorials never mentioned about this?)

or copy the ELF as "RESCUE.ELF"???
You want me to rename the BOOT.ELF into RESCUE.ELF and place it on the root of my USB stick?

My hardware is in my signature :)

...this way, FMCB-Installer should auto-copy it to mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF

Exactly! This should work, IF the Xploit itself is installed properly (75KB-osdmain.elf) --> Needs FMCB 1.5 (his loader).

My hardware is in my signature :)

Oh,... o.k. ^^ Good (like I assume a slim).
I think you have a properly installed fmcb, so 2nd should work easiest.

I've done everything it seems this is a hardware issue

BSOD after installing FMCB to MC

1st it could be my console SCPH-7706-J
2nd my stupid made in China 8mb MC which cost me 30 US dollar a piece
3rd maybe my unknown Modchip

My last hope is to acquire an original MC
I cant have a fat PS2 its impossible, cant even just borrow one
I will NOT open my damned PS2 just to see wats inside not until it starts to go crazy

you try multi installation?

and yes it could be that your memory card is not in some way compatible with mcboot..

Errr.....

I donnt think ur ule 4.17 cd image can make a bootable ule disc.

its not in a format that ps2 can identify and detect.

are u sure its working?

Its not tested yet because it contains little ELF inside that disk and runout of CD but
I made another 4.17 lots of ELF in it but I cant Attached file because it contains swapmagic I think its illegal to post in here
My ULE 4.16 bootable disk was my first succesful experiment
and made my own bootable SWAPMAGIC 3.8 CD PAL without failure
All bootable in my PS2.

And yes even me have doubt when I first made one because it look like it wont work but all of them work :)

So it doesn't even start the RESCUE.ELF?
Did you embed your own DVDELF.bin, or did you just install from ROM?

Hmmm...

I have the same console scph 77006 NTSC-J . For dvd playback, just try inserting a dvd while ur system is off, close the lid and push and hold the power button for 2 secs and then release it . This is how my modchip starts it. (it was premodded just like urs) .

I have had no issues with FMCB and if the FMCB installer had shown success on the window, then I think ur boot.elf might have been misplaced.

Could u try removing all the FMCB cnf from ur mc, install the FMCB 1.5 on ur mc, put the mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF and mc0:BOOT/BOOT1.ELF .

Now switchoff ur console, remove the disc in ur tray, close the lid and start the console by holding r1 or without. Also try try the same method with a disc on the console.

The only time I couldnt boot ULE on it was when my lid was open and it stayed on BSOD as such till i closed it.

jimmi tried to fix it but it screwed everything so he let it "as is".

It waits for tray to be inserted, befor it tries to recognize the disc, if "Fastboot" is on in CNF and only then.

But i dont have fastboot active, i like to see the Playstation 2 logo

TnA

Ah,... You mean, if you boot it through Browser?
That is because of FMCB (for now).
Maybe gets a change later(?!).

07-08-2008, 12:21 PM
No, when i turn on the PS2, its set to boot uLE.

Also if i open the tray while booting, and then close it, the control its like "turboed" in uLE, at least in 4.16, but as i said, its not a big problem, i play most of the time from the HD. i only find it curious, and its a little bothersome when i turn it on to take off a disc and forget to close the tray, but its not like if that will make me crazy

TnA
07-08-2008, 12:42 PM
Maybe I really get you wrong man.
Yes, after the tray is closed, and no disc is in, it should directly continue to load-execute uLE, if it is an Auto-ELF.
But this may also depend on uLEs CNF. ;)

You could also set FMCB to not boot uLE after start-up.

_ZedHqX4_
07-08-2008, 01:54 PM
Yeah, but, as i said, not a problem, only something curious, i mean, its not like my saves will corrupt, or the lens will die faster, or the ps2 will burn out, or a giant robot will come from outer space and destroy humanity or we all turn into zombies. But, then again, who knows? it might happen.......

I'm pretty sure it's your made in China 8mb MC.

I was doing some tests last week when my Sony 8mb MC that was made in China suddenly stopped launching the 75k osdmain. My first thought was that something happened to the MG IC in the card but then I copied my 1.3 MB osdmain.elf backup and it booted flawlessly, and with the same speed as with the 75k one.

So i suggest that you get a 1.3 MB dvdelf from someone (i can send you one) or try installing on a better card.

Edit: oh, i see you have a different region console than mine so my dvdelf will not work...

One thing you can try however is to increase the size of the dvdplx file. It's easy, just join it with some dummy file like

copy /B dvdplx.bin+dummy.bin DVDELF.BIN

then copy the DVDELF.BIN to your install folder.

Like I said I did my best to make it work

-REFORMAT MC with FMCB reformat feature

-normal install - succesfully installed then press Circle to load BOOT.ELF now Im inside ULE browse mode looks like its working but when I turn off and on or reset, empty or with disk in it, close or open disk cover, USB stick removed or not, reinstall it over and over
but still the screen flickers repeateadly BSOD. The flickers will stop only if I remove the MC :( but this is dangerous it can damage MC but Im pissed so I did it my PS2 starts to boot normally.

-REFORMAT MC again just in case

-multi install (same result as normal)

-with mc0:BOOT/BOOT.ELF (manually or auto copied by FMCB)
-with mass:BOOT/BOOT.ELF
-with mass:BOOT/BOOT1.ELF
-with RESCUE.ELF root USB stick

-Bootable CD SWAPMAGIC method
-Bootable CD Ule 4.17

well Im glad that someone has same hardware as mine working with FMCB
and thanks coolaan for the hint for the DVD playback :)

This leave to my stupid made in China 8mb Memory Card

Do you think FMCB 1.5 still reads DVDELF.BIN?

But I got an idea maybe
During multi install I can see a lot of OSDMAIN.ELF inside MC it could be dummy file If I join them together should do the trick?

Neme said that I should copy /B dvdplx.bin+***.bin DVDELF.BIN
But I dont have any BIN inside my MC it could be the OSDMAIN.ELF

or rename back the OSDMAIN.ELF back to DVDELF.BIN?

_ZedHqX4_
07-08-2008, 10:40 PM
he means the DVDPLX.bin of your region plus a dummy file, if you use on a command window "copy /b fileA+fileB FileC" it sums. them i believe l_oliveira posted a file with a lot of them "embed13R1PLUS_v2.zip" its the name of the file, just google it

mikelin

what I can assume is, ur MC is too bad. from 1.3 FMCB can support clone MC. but, not all. Im sure that 1.5 may still not be able to run off some low-quality clone MCs, like urs.

List all the attachments of the FreeVast thread by clicking on the attachment icon next to the thread title. Look for DVDPLx.rar near the bottom, extract the dvdplx file for your region, then you could try to duplicate its size as a first step.

copy /B DVDPLx.bin+DVDPLx.bin DVDELF.BIN

No guarantee that it will work though, just an idea worth trying. :)

I also had some problems with "looking like sony" chinese cards. On one of them everything went fine, but then it was freezing at black screen during start. I just made a backup of the directory, put some saves there and restored the backup (so it was somewhere at 3.5MB not 0MB like before). Amazingly everything started to work. This includes all the saves. I've checked every single of them and all saves do work fine. I'm clueless as to why it didn't want to start when it was placed at the beginning (there is no bad blocks and such, and all gamesaves do work fine).

@Yawa :

My memory card is also made in China ( 8 MB ) by sony( God knows whether the dealer tricked me or not). But I think it might be real , coz the dealer showed me 3 types of cards 2 were from CHINA and 1 from Japan. I didnt buy the too cheap one and also his price for the jap one was too high , so I bought the one from China for around $15 i guess. So I think only fake chinese ones fail.

Something is wrong with my OSDMAIN.ELF size

Inside my MC after normal install to my made in China 8mbMC

OSDMAIN.ELF - 75,280 bytes - DVDPLA???? Do the size increase when you patch something?
DVDPLA.bin - 75,280 bytes - it match the size.
So I check DVDPLC.bin - 75,152 bytes - this is region suppose to have to my SCPH-77006 right?

@ collaan:
Ill send you later with my 2 separate mcid.bin 12 hours from now
One from DVDELF.bin 1.4mb
and DVDELF.bin 75k - DVDPLC

l_oliveira

For 77006 and 77007 it's DVDPLA file.
I believe DVDPLC is for 50005/70005/77005.

I could not get my chinese memory cards to work with FMCB nor Neme's embed.

Actually when I made that zip file I was wrong about the C region.
I got all working (decrypted data exist in the folders) besides DVDPLC (I believe it's South Korea) and DVDPLR (Russia)

Oceania and Europe decripted data was given to me by kind members of this website.
Japanese (DVDPLJ), North American(DVDPLU), HK/China (DVDPLA) and Mexico/Latin America(DVDPLM) I decrypted myself.

The sole reason I could not finish all regions is because I could not reach the consoles for the missing regions nor anyone helped me.

Should anything new appear I now have consoles for the following regions :
Japan (Multiple versions)
USA/Canada (Multiple versions)
Mexico (I don't own one but eventually I can get one borrowed to tinkle with)
Europe (I own a Satin silver 50003 now)
Hong Kong/China (I don't own but I can borrow, just like the mexican one)

So at the time I released the package I was slightly misguided about some of the regions.

Our console had DVDPLA = (Asian console , Made in HongKong). DVDPLC is CHINA as oliveira mentioned. Also will be able to generate mcid.bin only for DVDPLA, not DVDPLC from olive's package.

Is ur modchip creating some issues? Any idea? Did u try removing the Ulaunch cnf file from SYS-CONF or where ever u put it? Also if u want to disable the modchip, u need to press the reset button 5 or 6 times( messy isnt it) . Just try.

I think you may have misunderstood what coolaan said. He obviously did not mean that you have to go through the complete reset booting procedure 5-6 times in a row.

Just like you can double-tap the power/reset button to run PS1 and DVD backups (according to your sig), some modchips require tapping that button several more times in the same way to reset with modchip off. So you could just try to five-tap or six-tap that button, and see if this turns your chip off.

Best regards: dlanor

Hmmm...

I too initially didnt know what chip my ps2 had until my curiousness got the better of me and I opened up my ps2. It has some name like "smart mod1" and a date "2006.02.11" . This might be a cheap clone but i dont know the who the original parent might be :D . If this is the chip u have with you, then it shouldnt be a problem coz it boots my fmcb just fine. The only problem I ever have with modchip is while using usbadvance, It wont load games, freezes at the "Loading game" screen. This is the only reason I need to disable the chip. Once disabled, it keeps it that way till u switch off the console.

@crazymonkey:
The dealer told me to but the back ps2 games as it is and for dvdplayback/ ps1 games to double tap the power button. But after a few tries with the double tap. I found the holding trick. Just hold the power button when powering on for 1 or 2 more seconds and it just boots to the dvd/ps1 mode.

crazymonkey
07-11-2008, 02:46 PM
there are many variations of tapping/holding reset button for various cheap modchips
mine requires double-tapping for ps1 mode, and hold to disable
some modchips can not be disabled at all
