what if you add a menu when open when you press
e.g select from there you can select what will R1 boot from mc0 mc1 mass cd
and in the same time you can choose what you want to boot from there.
when this is done you will be able to boot from any directory doesn't have to be boot

What you suggest is good, but this will make the loader more than a simple loader, it will become just like ulaunchelf.
Then just use ulaunchelf.
A configuring app for the cnf file will eventually be made, I will most likely try to make this app based on ule source (but it'll be a separate app different than the loader which may exit reloading the ps2browser so the exploit is triggered again, dunno if launching osdmain.elf would have the same effect).
It is a good Idea, but will not implemented (in my opinion) to the loader itself.
But as an external app, that'll be no problem. :)
With a pre-configured CNF to load from a button.
Like the Recovery of PSP-CFW.

Said it before... sorta. (http://psx-scene.com/forums/424393-post1777.html) :P
(though I guess you could share uLe's cnf file for keys, making it easier to set them without editing a file manually and basically skipping actually loading uLe.)
Make it completely compatible with uLe config files, and you could use uLe to assign buttons via a (normally unused by uLe) alternate config. So long as the FMBC ini parser skips anything it doesn't know about... may even work as is if I read right and the button names were retained - haven't tried, myself.

The thing I'd like to see comeback is a default BOOT.ELF like ulaunch when installed,it is easy enough to delete or replace;)

another suggestion why don't you make a log just like ps2 when booting a game
so it will show FMB then boot elf
e.g
What do you @ll think about this?
---Hardcoded Installer
-Copies FREEMCB.CNF to the folder, where the loader looks for it. <--Pre-configured CNFs will be possible and you can easily modify it, before installing FMCB.
-Use EMBED.ELF for Embedding-process
-Use BOOT.ELF, to auto-copy to mc?:BOOT/BOOT.ELF? <-- Same MC, where FMCB is.
(all in the same directory, like the Installer).
So, Installer would search for this: FREEMCB.CNF, BOOT.ELF, EMBED.ELF and DVDELF.bin
---Configureable Installer
-Search for BOOT.ELF (for embedding) and DVDELF.bin (also for embedding, like it does always)
-Search for a file, where it is specified, which ELF it should copy to which location.
Search for a COPY.TXT, or something and an easy script:
(SAMEDIRINSTALLER/)BOOT.ELF mc0:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
(SAMEDIRINSTALLER/)APP/SMS/SMS.ELF mc0:/BOOT/SMS.ELF
...
Just a suggestion.
Some other improvements,...
-Load FREEMCB.CNF from his own DIR, + ICONs, if nothing works it may sometimes help, if users could delete their CNF.
Quickest way, would be by using the PS2-Browsers "MC-Manager".
-Install ICONs (if no are present) to the Config-Dir.

yeah sure would simplify things greatly for new users
im sure the tools needed for this are already available (ps2shell+startup scripts)
but something made specifily for FMCB would be much better :D

I REALLY REALLY LIKE your idea for the Hardcoded Installer, That would be a good idea so you can just config your FREEMCB.CNF and put it it in the installer with whatever BOOT.ELFs you want, install and your done!
Did you tell jimmi your idea?:headbang:

maybe a button (select or so) when you press it you go to config screen of FMB ...
there you can set all your elfs, etc (like ULE)

Honestly, I think that 1.5 should be simplified. My opinion, the CNF file should be removed, but replaced by hardcoded checks and search paths that could go something like this
-system boot- load Free MC Boot -
1. Check for disc
1a. if yes, check for ESR (hardcoded path - possibly mc?:/BOOT/ since the program is small - until possibile embed later on)
1b. if no, proceed to look for BOOT.ELF
2. Load BOOT.ELF
2a. check mc?:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
2b. check mass:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
2c. check hdd:/__boot/BOOT.ELF (or boot.elf. Providing hdd modules are embedded at some point)
This would reduce problems on initial setup as well as possible boot failure later on due to users messing with the settings.
Just my 2 cents though. :)
Edit - @ zer0xx - please stop creating excess amounts of threads. You're drowning out everyone elses posts. For example, this thread should have been part of the main FreeVAST Continues thread.

That would be what I'd like to see too, but then the path's in the new Ule kinda way, as in instead of mc?/BOOT/, FMCB/BOOT/ so from the MC it was launched from it should look for a bootfolder..

naa, like the CNF .... but if you could just say in a menu: that button = (and then search for it and select it, like in ULE)

didnt read through but i think to beable to load two different elfs just by switchin the mc slots like if i have it in mc0 it loads ULE and if i put it in mc1 it will load ESR or if i put it in mc0 it loads cdloader or put it in mc1 it loads ESR. u get the idea :)
also like the idea check for ESR bootleg
@Bootleg: If no CNF is present, it uses the standart-settings.
Also the Standart-Paths like in old FMCB-Versions.
Adding HD would not be the problem I think, but it increases filesize I think.
Let's see, what 1.4c FINAL bring. ^^
Remains me to the PSP-Scene in some ways. :D
Never see it with a Modchip.
@all: Concept-Arts like Bootleg posted are welcome.

bootlegninja@:
I think there is a default boot procedure when no cnf is found (the same as 1.4 if I'm well informed). Adding the cd checking and booting as default would be nice (as cnf option), I for example wouldn't want a disc to boot even if i have it inside of the ps2 most of the time.
Using ESR if found is not a good idea, what if I just want to use a original not ESR patched?
@suloku: If you set the Fastboot to off, it'll boot to OSDSYS, if it is configured.
If the Browser is started, it will recognize any original disc (backup, if modded).
But,... Maybe a feature, that stops OSDSYS-CDVD(V)s auto-disc-execution if a disc is in drive and start OSDSYS, without auto-starting the disc.
I think Fastboot should be disabled, if no CNF is present.
I also posted a solution, on how to easily use all discs!
In coding, all is possible, so ESR-/DVD-/and Video-DVD-Fastboot/OSDSYS-Boot is possible.
