Hello, i am reading this project everyday i can and i am checking always the new files. :) First of all i have to say thanks to the creators, because version 1.4 finally works with my PS2 Slim without using any external proggram :) The other old versions were not working with my PAL PS2 Slim and Official Sony 8MB memory card (silver). But now with 1.4 it works very good (only with the own dvdelf).

But the question is, will this exploit work with PS3?
I have already tried it, but it is not working for me, i get a black screen and then the ps2 disc starts.
I tried first installing the exploit with a ps2 homebrew that can load ELFs with the ps2 modules that ps3 doesn't have. But it's still not working.
So i just copied my memory card to the ps3 (with the adapter) and then transfered the files with ulaunchelf. So it haves to work but it does not work :( I just wanted to have this on my ps3 lol :P because i think its a good advance to start on hacking the ps3.

Do you know if is there a way it can work? Or does sony fixed this with the ps3?

I dont know if the problem is that it wont work transfering just the files with ule, because maybe the memory card taht the ps3 generates haves another ID? I was just thinking that, because i used the MC adapter to transfer my memory card to the PS3 it may have the same ID, is that true? If not thats why it is not working and i must find a way to make the FREEMCBOOT working with the ps3... :chinscrat

Thanks.

I seriously doubt Free MC Boot would work on a PS3. Mainly because what F.MC.B. does is hijack the DVD upgrade feature of the PS2. That would be a function that the PS3 would not have of the ps2 since it would be moot point with it's firmware updates and BD-ROM.

Ah... i see.
Then they deleted that possibility... well in that case i will have to try the old ps1 exploit (i read somwhere that it works).

within 5 years, we may have a MC BOOT for PS3. but dont put too much expectation on it.

If the PS3 gets cracked, we don't even need a free-mcb. ;)
Hm,... Sony has some crazy ways to boot "defect" hardware.
Maybe there is a feature for PS3, too. ;)
But that will take a lot of time.
Don't expect it this year.

Where did you hear that? It doesn´t work on the ps3.
i had also tried to get the MC ifor the vmc on the ps3 but of course it didn´t work. Jimmi´s work was based on the Secrman module from the ps2 bios, if I´m not mistaken.
The Secrman module on the ps2/ps3 bios is ver different. people would have to start looking into the ps2bios on the ps3. It would even help for programming ps2 brew on the ps3 but noone has shown any interest in ps2brew for the ps3. Except Hermes with psxloader.

A guy at EOL forums said that, (they are spanish forums) i will have to go and ask him then... he said it works (and then you could swap with the PS3 opened).

There's absolutely no reason for a PS3 to look for bootable code on PS2 save data. Updates to it's "OSD" (the PS2 emulator on the PS3 has no OSD, just some skeleton replacement to allow for the OS/operational environment consistency.) will come with the "System software" update for the whole PS3.

Have you ever wondered why the HDLoader doesn't work with the PS3 ? It's because the hardware for DEV9 (HDD/Network adapter) simply doesn't exists at all. Game programs will have their modules replaced by equivalent code which will provide network/hard disk access.

So again, why they would need to have the legacy code in it ?
If you look the PS1 bios on the PSP pops firmware module, you will see it's just a bare kernel. All the PS1 menus and screens/memory card manager were removed.
