You could probably build most of the Cedega libs for PS3, but the bigger problem is that PS3 uses a different kind of processor and so can't run PC Windows apps the same way a PC running Linux does.

Forget it, Cedega/Crossover are based on Wine, a big hack that implements the windos DLL functions used by applications with local libraries. If you look in their documentation, it's clearly stated that Cedega and Crossover for mac work only on IA32 architecture...

Even if cedega was recompiled for PS3 (PowerPC) architecture to run natively, the game files and windows dll's are still x86 and will not run on the ps3.

what about the mac version of games... can that be played on the PS3? Wouldn't that get over the architecture problem?

Yes, but there is no MAC "emulator" like wine to run them.

no way , there is not even a 64bit version for amd64 cpu.
plus without 3d support you can run games at 0.001 fps

Yes, Sony's Hypervision protection allows conditional access to the hardware. And OtherOS (a.k.a Linux) cannot access the RSX. But even if someone manages to bypass the Hypervision, there are still no linux drivers for the RSX. But, someone will probably hack the ForceWare drivers to work with the RSX because its nothing but a 7800Gtx...with some modifications.

Cedega, like WINE, is not really an emulator. It is rather a virtual environment because it passes the function calls through the hardware--hardware isn't being emulated, the software is . . . sorta, the environment. Anyway, there are virtual environments for the Mac OS, Basilisk I think is an emulator but only emulates old (Mac OS 7-8) systems, SheepShaver can run up to 9.0.x, and Mac-on-Linux is a virtual environment that can run pretty much any Mac OS from the last ten years, 8, 9, and X. That's the good news, the bad news is that it does require installations of the system in question (eats up drive space) and lots of 3D stuff (think games here) is either buggy or doesn't work. Top off the cherry on it that there is no PS3 version of these virtualizers.

no way , there is not even a 64bit version for amd64 cpu.wine, which cedega is a commercial ripoff of, has 64bit support. it essentially works by building two wine versions - one for 32bit platform in 32bit environment (which most 64bit users have installed in their systems), and one for 64bit windows executables (there are not many of them, but they exist nevertheless).
it's not possible to have cedega/wine running on non-x86 architecture (like cell). why? because it works by
- providing a mechanism to load windows executables (PE loader)
- provides free (open source) implementation of windows libraries
- provides a mechanism of redirecting windows system calls to its libraries
the problem is - windows executables are still compiled for x86 architecture. and nothing can change that. you would need to emulate the pc hardware to have them work, which is something that's not the focus of wine/cedega.
there are still no linux drivers for the RSXnot true. nouveau project gotten some bits to work, but sony's 2.10 firmware updates locked down rsx access even more in 2.10 firmware. [ http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FAQ#head-9fafd7239e80fd1b65400f2c72ad50bdb6221e2b ]
i guess it's a matter of time when custom ps3 firmware will surface and it will disable the hypervisor. because it's not likely that sony will change their mind.
