hello, if i install linux in PS3, can i play h264 movies using VLC ?
i read from some site, that sony limit the RSX.
so there no hardware acceleration in Linux
is h264 playable in PS3? or it will skippy ?

Playable yes, skippy probably until someone of the FFMPEG/libavc developers adds support for the SPUs...

so its still a long way to use PS3 as full-fledge multimedia player
I don't know the exact numbers, but i suspect (FFMPEG/libavcodec) developers majority is from Europe and, on that region, PS3 isn't shipped yet.
There's at least one Italian developer that has recently gained physical access to a Japanese PS3, as you can read in his blog ( http://planet.gentoo.org/developers/lu_zero/2007/02/18/drive_failure_ps3_other_news ). I would not hold my breath, but seems there are people interested in this...
You will need SPUmedialib with mplayer compiled with SPUmedialib support
