arashd,
Please don't do that again! And when are you going to be able to accept orders? I really enjoy it.

man lazer hollowed out holes to connect them? I hardly think so. But then it is possible. I'd think it'd take a ton of work and a lot of time to make a mod like this. But if that is working, that's very cool. Just would be a lot simpler to glue the chip there and solder the real working one inside.
I just think the case itself looks so damn cool. Real nice how he lit the area with the chip up. Hopefully he used an LED to do that, cuz those tiny blue cold cathodes tend to burn out rather quickly I've found. I was just showing this site to my friend tonight. He thinks the case is real cool too. Very excellent work. I wonder how they keep the big PS2 logo when they paint it.

Here's a good question, is it a Magic 3 or 3.1 in there? Magic 3's suck so that would seriously hinder sales compared to a Magic 3.1 in there

a good question? obviously it was a custom job, so the modchip type is irrelevant. you could pull it off with any mod, but the lighting may not match the mod..

Ummm, are you saying modchip type is irrelevent? Then you must know NOTHING about Magic III chips, the first series had bad DVD9 support, froze because of overheating issues, and were just in general faulty chips. Magic 3.1's that came out later feature much improved DVD9 support as well as little or no freezing anymore on games. If you're going to have a modchip, its important to have a good quality one. Personally, I wouldn't mind having a different color chip that didn't match the light as long as it worked. Yes, you could pull out the chip and put in a new one, but being its a custom job and undoing a custom job enclosed in a window could be really hard, would you even want to? I don't think so Bgnome, sorry

this is a case mod. he chose to use that particular modchip. if you want him to do this case mod for you for $500, i am guessing you can use whatever modchip you want. the "irrelevance" is referring to the fact that this is a CASE mod. the quality of the modchip is not in question.

if you went to the site and looked at the chip, you would see its a magic 3.0 anyway...

Yes, but the case mod COMES with a modchip does it not? Then if I were buying this then I would want a chip that worked with my ps2 and wouldn't make it crappier than a regular ps2, with freezing issues even on original versions of GTA Vice City and Kingdom Hearts.
Sorry if I disagree with you, its just I think you should get a good quality chip in the case mod, the original question I asked still hasn't been answered in what version of Magic chip is this? I was just wondering.

im not sure, but i think if you gave arashd a mod with your ps2 he'd be able to do it for you, but as he is a business (colorconsoles) and has affiliated like IGN, it would make him look bad to see that he is supporting modchips.... so no.

In answer to some of your above comments....
It is a Magic 3, not a Magic 3.1. I ordered the chips and started working on the mod before the Magic 3.1 was announced. The mod chip can be changed as all the wiring in under the chip on the window I would just heat the points from the top to release the wires, and then take the new Magic 3.1, laser cut the holes on the bottom and place it back on, fill the hole with solder, and then place some silver leafing plates on the top to make it look like it does now.
I didnt use Messiah 2 because the Magic 3 is blue!!!! It looks dope and matches the entire setup. I am working on the same exact thing using a red Magic 3.1. I know the color of a modchip is not the best way for a consumer to select a modchip, but I am doing this with different intentions, and the Magic chips work fine for me anyways.
And I could not sell or perform this mod under the colorconsoles name because I can bring colorconsoles into that realm, as advertisers and news agencies would have to shun me. I am doing it for some people as a personal job, but the prices I quoted them are so damn high, its meant to discourage people from asking ;)

Not only is it a Magic 3.0, but it is a Magic 3 clone. Notice the black resistors.
Anyways, this case mod is old enough that the 3.1 probably wasn't even out when it was created.
But thing is man..to solder wires to that thing, they probably used long wires if they aren't bsing. Which realistically should be fine but there's a lot of modders out there that'd disagree with that (even ones that make external mod chip adapters with long wires ;)

Yeah....it seems the chip is also a clone. Serves me right for buying something off people who advertise on that crappy ownz site!!!! But it works and plays everything I need

Heyhey arashd,
Hope you don't think I was trying to bash the project there. It is freaking mind blowing. WAY better than those crummy case mods where they add the two transparent rectangular windows on top (eww). Excellent work man. So you guys really did lazer drill through there? I was wondering if that means you made the wire come all the way on top of the chip and then bent it over and soldered it down. That's what I'm thinking you guys did. But man you must've used long wires inside the thing? Cuz I've taken 4 of those systems apart to mod before and man.. that top part of the case can be kinda a pain :)
Anyhow, tomorrow I swap my magic2 clone for my magic 3 and hope it is the latest code and doesn't lock up :) I doubt I will have a single problem.

yeah...we made the holes in the back and we didnt lay the wires flat we made them short so that they were just sitting in the middle of the hole. We then filled solder in around that hole thus completing the connection between wire and the hole. Then i took silver sheets of leafing, the kind used to decorate antiques and or indoor iron guard rails for stairways, and laid it over to make cover the hole and solder. And the wires are indeed long. But we found a much closer ground point because that wire should be kept short. And thanks for your compliments!
