Reminds me of Netflix... Same thing.. just movie rentals..
Didn't get into the details, but do they have gaurantees on new releases? How long till they get the new releases?

They already have the two towers game for gamecube (1/03/03), so I assume they get new releases pretty quick. I signed up for their free trial just now. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

They probably use those new "self-destructing" media, where the dye leaks through a layer in about 48 hours and renders the media uselss, and disposible.
Pretty kool, I can't wait till they have an online BlockBuster service :p

I didn't know there were so many other services like this. I particularly like Gamefly because of their large selection, but the others are 2 bucks cheaper. hmmmm....

www.redoctane.com - I've read reviews and their wait time is pretty long, located in CA. I was tempted to sign up until I read a couple reviews
www.boomeranggames.com - Haven't read any reviews, but one user says its good
www.numbthumb.com - Located in TX, Deals with new consoles
www.angelgamer.com - Deals with new consoles
www.dvdavenue.com - Has DVD, PSX, and PS2
Try finding reviews on the services before signing up. Redoctane has a nice list of games, great tech support, great deals, but apparently the wait for games is too long.

I think you can only rent 2 games per month for 22$, so it is not
All the games you want - 22 bucks a month?
But I rather go to my local video rental.
Jules7825
01-15-2003, 12:20 AM
Nah it's you can only have 2 games out at a time. Pay $20, then recieve two games. When you are done, send them back, and they will ship you new games that you put in the queue.

Sounds the same as Red Octane which me and a couple of buds at work get our games from. You need to have a huge list of games you want though otherwise you can wait for weeks without getting a thing. I would recommend going to blockbuster midweek for any must have games, i walked into mine and all the rentals were in stock at which point i had a struggle with my self control....

I subscribed to both Govojo and Gamefly on 1/11/03 and today I recieved one game from each service. Govojo packages their games in bubble wrap, while Gamefly uses a paper mailer just like Netflix. Shipping times were okay, I suppose, with them being in CA and me being in MO. One thing to note is that my Gamefly games shipped the day I put them in my queue, while my games at Govojo didnt ship until 2 days later. I think that I like Gamefly better; they have a nice selection, with most all of their titles in stock.

I have used Gamefly before, but the shipping times were horrendous from the east coast, like 5-7 days both ways, so you could only get 2 sets of 2 games each month.

Does anyone know if blockbuster still does that gamers deal. I've read that they actually used to do the same deal. $20 a month, and you could keep going back to check out new games as long as you only had 2 games out at a time.
I go on their site and it's like, "I score 2 free game rentals a month!"... but you must rent 5 get 1 free. Which each game rental is like $6:crazy:

Also, is gamefly located in CA? or is that Govojo?

They only have that deal during the summer. They have it so all the kids who have the summer off can go there and rent games all summer. Of course, they're not expecting people to rent the games over and over on SAME day but hey, their policy doesn't say anything about not being able to do that. Yeah, that was one great summer...

hmmm i live in ny, so that would mean that i would only get 4 games per month 20/4 = 5per game... kinda pointless? any other places that ship faster? anyone else get more than 4 games per month?

Doing a Google groups search, I found someone that recommended one in Indiana.
www.nonstopgames.com
I live in the midwest, and the thought of getting a game within a day or two is just so kewl. I read that DVDavenue.com which is based in MD has great service but might not have all the selection that you might want. They are more into renting DVDs.
If anyone tries the nonstopgames, please let us know how it was. I would, but I sold my PS2. :( Of course, I now have an excuse to buy a premodded DMS3 when it come out ! :)
I think if we clean up this thread, it would make a great sticky!

I subscribed to gamefly and govojo. Gamefly is way better. They have all games in stock including the new releases. Govojo only has only games of 2000-2001 in stock. I subscribed to gamely during the christmas week but still managed to get the games in 5 days which included a weekend. I live in PA. I subscribed to govojo on 1/13 and still havent got my game. I got two games from gamefly but only 1 from govojo. Thats all I can think of right now.
EDIT : Gamefly has Simcity in stock which released yesterday.

for me the whole point of these services is to get more than 4 games per month.. it's great to have the new releases but if I can only get 4 per month, i don't think these services are worth it.

Looks like we have a winner, folks! My games form nonstopgames.com arrived today, a whole 2 shipping days from when I they shipped! (they shipped on saturday, with no mail on sunday or monday) They also have an excellent selection, with many games instock, new releases, etc. I highly recomend this service if you live in the middle states or on the east coast.

update
I decided to test out this GameFly place.....
Just like I mentioned earlier... It's like NetFlix, except these are games for the ps2,xbox,GC...
I ordered my 2 games and they shipped them out the very same evening and I got them 2 days later... The package is orange with just the initials of GF. I guess to prevent from someone from taking it from your box if they see that word game on it or something...
I recommend this company....

From the web sites that I have visited it looks like Red Octane has the most games. I don't know about the newest games with Red Octane, really did'nt look the site over all that well. Gamefly looks next best, has new releases and then angelgamer. Numbthumb did'nt look all that great. What I would like to know is what if you don't want to rent from these places anymore? Any problems with the games not working or what happens if you don't return the games on time? I want to know about the gotcha's? If any?

nonstopgames is dead. They had pretty good turnaround time for folks in the midwest. I did like the service but $40 for 5 games a month was steep. Has anyone tried gamelender.com?
They seem to have a large selection, and charge on $30 per 5 games w/o a subscription. You subscribe for a year, then it drops to $25 per 5. The other plans are $16/18 per 2 or $20/22 per 3. For a midwest person, shipping from CA can take 4 days. But, if I can get 10 games a month, then that would $2.50 per game which is cheaper than $6 per game for blockbuster. I hate trying a game for a week and hate it on the first night renting it.
Where does anyone else rent their games? Thanks.

Anyone tried www.gamesforrent.com (http://www.gamesforrent.com) ? They promise 2-4 days via first class mail. Once I get my DVD burner I might try them out. And they are in Jersey so it may be pretty quick for any of you East coast people like me.

Here are my experiences:
I have 3 rental accounts. One with govojo.com, one with gamefly.com and another that I am not going to mention because I get my games quickest from them and if you all go and sign up, I won't get any. :) :(
I HAD an account with RedOctane but cancelled due to their lack of selection, slow turnaround time, and outrageous claims on release dates. They claimed some titles were not going to be released until summer, but I could go to my local Blockbuster and pick it up?
Govojo is starting to go the way of RedOctane, my game queue is like 50 games long and they hardly send me any titles. I might cancel with them. The one and only drawback to gamefly is that you can have only 2 out at a time max. No other plan options.

BOOMERANGGAMES.COM just shut down too. Ouch!. I think it would be great if netflix combined with a game rental company. That way a pure on-line game rental company has two audiences to tap from.

I signed up with gamesforrent.com about a week ago since I'm on the East coast and they are in New Jersey. Supposedely, I had two games shipped to me last thursday and I still have not recieved them. 6 days to go one state is rediculous, but right now I'm blaming it on the USPS. I'll post again after I have a little more experience with them. Their selection is good, but I'm going to cancel if it takes a week to get my games.

I go to www.maddgames.com takes only 3 days to get them anywhere in the usa and at only 24.95 for 3 games out is well worth it. i get about 12 games a month on it not bad at all. Also they have the titles the day they come out and you can add titles to your que that are not out yes so as soon as there out they are on the way very nice. Also they have everything in stock they are only video games and have ps2, psx, xbox, gamecube and others. very nice site and have tons of games would highly recomend it.

They ship from IL i get them in PA in 3 days most. And they are much better then renting from blockbuster. Blockbuster is 5.99 a game where i am at hummmmm at 12 games a month very expesive for only 24.95 and you pay nothing more no shipping and the games are always in. I got out of blockbuster when i could not get the games i wanted and they where never in some not even carried. Then i went to maddgames and they have everything in. Now think your looking at it like 3 games = 24.94 but i only play a game for about 1 hour and send them right back. I know if i want to buy them or not ;) You dont pay shipping to your house or back to them. And then as soon as they get them back they ship you the next 3 you have on your list.

I'm trying out MaddGames right now. I'm a bit disappointed so far, though. It's been a good few weeks since .Hack mutation has come out and still nothing. Plus, they're missing a lot of titles from their selection. They could make up for all of this with speedy deliveries. We'll see...
