hey,
i was wondering if the ps3(when it finally comes out here in europe) could be displayed on my 19'' TFT Monitor which i use for my PC. it has a DVI Male output.
searched the web a little bit and found a HDMI Female to DVI-D single link female adapter (pm me if you want the link, cant put it here coz no 15 posts yet)
so for example plug the hdmi cable into the ps3 then into the HDMI Female to DVI female adapter and into my TFT, would that work for HD quality video?
and if it works how can i get sound? thx in advance
P.S. No money to buy a hdtv just for ps3 -.-

From the small amount of research I've done on the same topic, I've heard it's only possible if your monitor is HDCP compliant. It's a copy protection scheme of some kind, hence the CP, output from the PS3's HDMI port. But I could be wrong, haven't tried it myself.

And how do i know if my Monitor supports hdcp or not? It is almost 2 years old now, so it prolly wont :(

You could probably find out more information about your monitor on its manufacturer's website, but my guess is, if it's 2 years old, it isn't HDCP compliant. More than likely, it's time to start looking at HDTVs, just like me.

i guess i have to find out for myself, coz i didnt find anything about my monitor on the manufacturer's website
But what about the sound? How can i get sound out of the ps3 besides from the composite/hdmi output, coz i just want to plug in my 2 speakers or my headset from my PC, how can i do that?
or do i have to buy a special usb headset from SONY?

Yeah, sound is definitely another issue there madudester. It isn't as if the PS3 has a mini-jack audio port, just optical for connection to a newer stereo receiver. I hadn't heard about the USB headset you mentioned, but that sounds like it might be the simplest solution. I wish you luck with your monitor experimentation, but don't get your hopes up.

i bought the samsung SyncMasterTM 941BW 19" widescreen monitor to play on until i buy an hdtv this summer. i would provide a link but cant do that until after six more posts lol.
yes it must be hdcp compliant as others have stated. the monitor only cost 200 and looks a lot better than my old, crappy crt tv so i think it was worth it. i recommend this monitor if you plan to get one. it would be best to save up for an hdtv if you can though. i hear they'll drop ~30% in price every year so maybe you'll be able to get one sooner than you thought!

Cheers mate, someone who finnaly is using the 19" tft monitor but sony have to spoil it by (you have to have a hdcp monitor) but in england that samsung monitor that someone told us about is £305 here on play.com. But it is cheaper if you get a ps3 from the U.S.A because when they finnaly come out here they are going to be £400(20gb), don't understand why people want the 60gb one. overall the english one is just over piced don't you think? cheers mate, lookin foward to your reply.
