Hey All,
I bought a Japanese PS3 and plan to use it in Europe.
All the reports i've read on the net indicate that there is no need for a voltage converter despite the fact it only says 110volt on the backside sticker.
Does anyone have experience with that? Using a US/JP 110Volts PS3 directly on the 220volts current?
I got a converter already but might as well avoid using it if possible.
Thanks,
TSR
Please no anwsers like : "just try it!" or "just use the converter if you're scarred". It's a waste of your time & mine.

There are official pictures of the PSU with it's ratings stamped into the metal casing clearly showing "100v - 240v", I've got my Jpn PS3 running straight on 220-240v mains in australia and it works fine.
It's actually cheaper for Sony to produce universal PSU's than it is to produce seperate PSU's so that pretty much adds one point to someone who's unsure on the whole thing.

I using my JPN PS3 here at Amazon/Brazil, yeah it shows 100V@50Hz ... but works fine at 127V@60Hz.... :P

Thanks guys, precisely what I wanted to know.
Just out of curiosity though, are your PS2s made in Japan or China?
It could make a difference i'm afraid.
Mine's made in Japan.

I imported my PS3 from Japan to New Zealand. We're 240volts down here and it works fine plugged straight in without a step down transformer.
Like you I searched every forum I could before I plugged it in and relying on people with nothing more than their sig to go by is pretty scary :)

thanks for yet another positive answer bigmal, just wondering if your PS3 is made in japan or in china?
If it's made in china, it kinda makes sense it's 110-220, however the first jap batch was made in japan (it's one of those i got) and i wonder if it makes any difference.
And yes indeed, burning 650 bucks in 3 seconds is not exactly my cup of tea :)

The sticker on the under side says "Made in Japan" so I guess it's Japanese as opposed to Chinese.
Hope that helps.

Mine is also Made in Japan, every PS3 has a universal PSU, the sticker is just changed for whatever the specs of the region are.
You won't fry your PS3.
