Hey Guys,

Please could you help me. I Receive the following error message when trying to launch a demo game from the Hard Disk. "an error occurred during the start operation. (80010510)" Theses are demo games downloaded from the Sony store. When I insert a Blue-Ray game and then launch demos from the Hard Disk I get the following error. "an error occurred during the start operation. (8001050B)"

The PS3 also does not read the blue ray discs of ridge racer 7 and the free movie, it actually does not even see them and nothing is displayed in the menu screen. It does however read Playstation 2 Games Only. It recognises DVD films as "Data" and therefore does not play them. It recognises PS1 games as audio Cd's.

I've tried the following:-

1) Restore PS3 OS + Full Format
2) Restore Default Settings
3) Replaced with New Hard Drive
4) Used the clean blue-ray laser tutorial
5) Disconnected Blue-Ray drive from PS3 board, but same error message when trying to play demos from hard disk.

Currently the only thing I can do is play movie trailers from the HDD that I have downloaded from the sony store and play mp3's that i have copied accross from my usb memory stick to the PS3 Hard Drive.

My confusion is that I can play movies off the Hard Disk, but not the demo games off the Hard Disk. Is this a hardware problem of software issue ?

Many Thanks.

Sounds like the Blu-Ray section of the drive has died, weird that you can't start demo's from the HDD though.

This sounds like, for me, your PS3 Firmware has broken... wait new FW, and proceeds with a upgrade.... I has this some issue at my PSP... some time ago...

Or a bit more simple, if u PS3 detects a new FW by the network/internet... this blocks you PS3 for play... and you need upgrade to unlock game play....

Hi There,

Yes I was thinking the same thing about firmware. The problem had started when I was on firmware 1.30, now we are on firmware 1.32. Maybe the problem will be fixed when there is a major firmware upgrade like 1.4X.

What we really need is the ability to install and uninstall the OS.

Hey Guys,

I've got some more information. I managed to get hold of a USA NTSC PS2 game (Metal Gear Solid 2) and thought i'll try to play it on my bricked PS3.

It recognised the game and when I try to launch it I get the message "this game cannot start due to region restriction"

I've tried my PAL and JPN PS2 games and they have this error, as I would expect, but I wouldn't expect this message for the USA game.

I have checked the SLUS-20144 number of the game and according to the PS site this game is compatable with the PS3.

Another interesting thing is that when I put in a dvd movie it recognises it as a data dvd. I can then browse that dvd and only see the top 2 level folders. Normally they are somthing like video_ts & audio_ts. I actually see videg_ts & audig_ts.

So any thoughts as to whether the problem is related to the blue-ray drive being locked or some type of problem in the PS3 OS, software corruption ?

Thanks.

Is this ps3 made in china or made in Japan? It seems the made in china models are having more problems.

Here is the site via a google translation ! Can't really undertand what they are saying.
