Hey, guys. I've got a few hundred dollars and I'm thinking of investing it in a console but I'm so confused between the 360 and ps3. What would you guys suggest? Comparing them hardware wise, the ps3 is slightly powerful but is it really worth the extra $200? The graphics, would I realize much of a difference between the two running on analogue tv?

The 360 and ps3 are neck and neck to behonest the ps3 specs look good on paper but in reality the 360s Gpu is more powerful and was custom built to my knowledge it's still holding it's on against pc cards. Also the 360 has more ram the ps3 has a watered down 7800gtx about a 2 year old GPU but ps3 has cell witch can aid the 7800gtx. I think when it comes down to it their both going to pre forum the same it's pretty much comes down to witch system has the most games you like to play please look in the 2007 game thread that i made maybe that will help you choose. I own both systems because they both got great games coming in 07.

Hey, thanks for the reply gus. What would you say has more "appealing" graphics the 360 or ps3? Are you running the systems on hdtv or just analog?

I'm running on HDtv i use both 720p and 1080i. Right now at this moment 360 has more eye candy like Gears of war but i think in 07 ps3 will out do it and i think ps3 will out preforum 360 you got to keep in mind cell will aiding the ps3s gpu. Ps3 launch titles dident show it's best but it shows for first Gen ps3 games and 360 being on it's 2nd gen games that ps3 is catching up fast to the 2nd gen games. In 07 your going to see some great stuff on ps3 . Use google and look at the heavenly sword trailer for ps3 and metal gear 4 /lair/warhawk/dmc4/tekken 6.....

Yeah, see that's what I fear. I don't want to have to end up investing about $500 dollars on a 360 (bundle package) now just to realize a year down the road the PS3 totally dominates the 360 in every way. Do you think it'd be that much of a difference in the game releases coming up in 2007?

Yes i do i think were going to start seeing what these systems really can do. Im looking forward to more games on ps3 then i am 360. look at my 2007 game thread. :)

Eh graphics shouldn't be the reason why you buy a console, it should be about what games are out for the system or whats coming out.
If you like FPS then the 360 will be the system for you, I'm not very fond of FPS as it's just overall too linear of a game genre and get's boring IMO so I've gone with PS3.
I like Japanese games more than US games.
Graphics SHOULD be and are the reason people buy games this is what SONY and Micorsoft have been shoveing in our faces the past 4 years on how much graphical power these systems have customers expect to see what they been preached too for 4 years now and want to see why they paid $400 and $600 for console if no one cared about graphics then we would all still be find with our ps2's and xbox 1s. I'm a fan of the japan games my self Rpgs and mmorpgs the japan games bring more to the table i think any ways.

Buy a 360 and a bunch of games or a 360 and a Wii. There is absolutely no reason to own a PS3 right now. With the exception of Resistance, the games are all garbage and there is nothing on the immediate horizon. There will probably not be any decent titles for the PS3 until next fall.
The ps3 killer appz don't start till march then rest of 07 looks good.

Save the money. Wait to see who comes out on top. Both systems are capable of insane graphics and all people can do is nitpick to see a difference between the two right now. Today the 360 has more good games but it sure should because it's been out longer. It's going to come down to who gets the better games, and while my guess is on the PS3 nobody really knows at this point.
Might I suggest a DS? :)

No Graphics are what sony and microsoft are telling you to compare them by, because that is all the console makers can have "some" control over. What makes a good game is gameplay, graphics are a sidenote that can make the game better if they are done right. It is the Game maker that makes good games not the console maker. Look at the GTA games poor graphics but very good gameplay and it is one of the higher selling games. And it's a good game on both Xbox and Ps2, The number one reason people should buy games is gameplay not graphics.
Look at the games you want then see what console they are available on, choose which console has the most games that you cannot get on the other console
console specific games sell consoles (metal gear solid and Halo)

You're exactly right, what people need to understand is that games aren't about graphics instead they are about gameplay, story, sound and atosphere which really MAKE the game what it is, graphics just enhances those core components but in no way does it make the game better.
I'm all for eye candy and I like new graphics but I'm not going to spend 60-70 bucks on a game to look at, I want to play it and have a lot of fun with it aswell.

I agree im not saying gameplay don't matter by no means lol You can play he new sonic game on 360 and tell that. Looks great but poor gameplay but im also saying if no one cared about graphics this thread would not be here cause we would still be playing our ps2s and xbox 1s.

No one is saying that we don't care about graphics, where did you get that idea from? a PS2 offers a much better gaming spectrum and I'd say experience aswell than the PS3 at the moment anyway so most who have PS2's now are more than likely still playing them quite a bit.
Sonic hasn't been even slightly good since atleast Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast.
The only reason why this thread is here is because someone who obviously only cares about what games look like is asking what console is better, my answer is that it's far too early to judge correctly. Take Ridge Racer 5 for example, anyone remeber that the textures on the cars were pixelated? pretty blocky around the edges here and there and no AA whatsoever, now look at titles such as GT4 or MGS3, the graphics have evolved but also the developers and that's only because they knew their way around the hardware and could push it to it's limits.
Bad programming can easily make a powerfull system look like it's struggling aswell so as I said before, it's far too early to judge what system has better graphics.
