Read and see what could possibly rape Sony anally.

(If this is the wrong section, please move it accordingly, I just figured it was PS3 related.)

And the next generation Whopper will decide Burger King's fate. When you have your hands in as many cookie jars as Sony does, a single product failure will not have you begging out on the streets. Just take a look at Ford Motor Company, sheesh.

No matter when they article is from, has much in the article changed? Other than the fact that the PS3 is actually out?

I doubt it, the fan base is quite big and it's still making a fuss with gamers so I reckon it'll be around for some time and so will Sony but hey if they do go bankrupt then something will takes its place.

Actually, from what I've gathered Sony is betting a large chunk of the company on the PS3 and if it is a failure Sony IS in trouble. Not necessarily bankruptcy, but trouble.

This article though is nonsense. Sony knows how much the system costs. They knew going in. It's not like there's going to be an accountant somewhere who's going to say, "Wait, we take a LOSS on these? Oh, crap!" They know what they're doing. On the accounting side at least. <duck>

lol sony bankrupt b/c of PS3? that's a joke
seriously, the only thing which might (and very much likely will) happen if the PS3 won't be a success, is that sony will get away from the Console/Gaming industry.
I guess no-one has any idea how big sony is? :|

Just because you don't wanna believe it doesn't make it untrue.
I'll go with what Perseid said, they will take a SERIOUS loss if the PS3 doesn't take off. To the point where they might have massive layoffs to avoid going bankrupt.
The PS3 is that much of an investment to them, think about it, for every 1million they make, they lose 200million dollars, it's a lot. If they ever plan to have any sort of success, and they're gonna need to sell WAY more than that. If modchips come out fairly soon, the people using them instead of buying games at full price are also going to contribute to the fall of Sony, and that's a lot of people at this site alone.

If the PS3 tanks, Sony Computer Entertainment is in limbo not Sony Corporation. Not everything you read on the Internet is true bud, sometimes you actually have to think a little bit. I work at a car dealership and if one department fails, the others will pick up the losses. If it continues to lose money, the department can be liquidated to preserve the business. Make sense?

I'm not saying the PS3 isn't a gamble, but at the same time wasn't the original Playstation and the Xbox a shot in the dark as well?

For a large company like Sony, if they even thought it would cause such a financial burden they couldnt recover from, they would have stopped production by now and wrote the losses off already. Besides, the profits from the PS2 are still a huge income, slowly dimishing, but not dead.

Yeah, and now that we have the PS3 three months later, it's even crappier and selling worse than expected.
