Sony Cancels Gran Turismo HD To Focus On GT5

fter making a big deal about Gran Turismo HD at E3, and then making an even bigger splash at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony today revealed in an online letter that they would be canning the project as we now know it. However, all is not lost. Sony will be releasing Gran Turismo HD Concept in Japan as a free download on December 24th. Polyphony has stated that they scrapped the project to fully focus on Gran Turismo 5.

The content will include Polyphony’s next-gen Gran Turismo driving engine. How many cars or tracks will be included in the download is undetermined at this time. We’re still waiting on official word from Sony whether or not this content will make it stateside.

However, from our experience, if you make a Japanese online account with your PlayStation 3 you can access the Japanese PlayStation Store. Merry Christmas! Note, whether or not this changes by December 24th is unknown, but we’re keeping our fingers and steering wheels crossed.

We’ll keep you posted.

Man this BULL $hit!!!:cuss: That is the only game that I've been waiting for besides GT5. They better have that free download available over here in the States too damn it. :::sigh:::

Maybe we can pull the same exploit that X360 users did. If you wanted to download demos from different regions all you had to do with change the time zone on your X360 configuration settings. After that, it wou let you communicate with servers for that region.

This is so much BS though...

2 exclusives lost and now no GTHD for north americans? It seems only thing you can do with a ps3 now is test out an OS, browse online a lil and play just 2 nice games.
Why is the download only avalable for JP only? Did they get lazy translating the game or just didnt find it worth selling?
Should just have a small team working on it for NA NTSC and PAL users while we wait for GT5 which i bet will take a while. Now i bet GT5 will be rushed.

Even though i dont have the system yet, im starting to agree that the launch was/is horribly done.

Yeh i feel yah the hole thing has me worryed i paid $640 for a system i can't do nothing with atm accept play my ps1 and ps2 games cause the rest of the games are already on 360 accept for RFOM. I'm worryed i may be stuck with a $640 doorstop thats not going to has much game support Devs are running to 360 like it's the only choice hell their so happy with 360 and how easy it is to develop for their Porting from 360 to pc and to ps3. Some don't see how bad of shape the ps3 is in i see it and their in really bad shape they hardly got any game support reminds me of the sega saturn all over again a powerful console just to hard to program for and the devs went to playstation 1 now it looks like its all shiffting from sony to xbox 360. Thats not all ps3 is not selling good in japan and all i just read this weeks sells chart DS out sold ps3 by alot and 360 sold : 7,007 (+73.01%) They did dam good this week they sold a +73% raise compared to the week before cause of of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 and the upcoming release of Blue Dragon on December 7th. Sony has no RPGS or nothing out even their on country wants to play. Things are really bad for sony atm i wouldent be Suprized at all if sony pulled the plug on ps3 before they loose any more money. Im probaly going to put mine on ebay their still selling for $990 to any one who is thinking of buying a ps3 i would hold on to your money and watch what happend's with the system before tossing out $600 your not missing nothing atm any how. Sony has lost a good amount of it's exclusives pretty much all the ones they got left are the ones the Company owns. I just got done watching the Dev who made God of war interview he said he wanted to make God of war 3 for ps3 buy sony has not even offerd to speak with him to get his ideals into works. Then sony lost Elvon to 360 for those of you who don't know it's a MMORPG title that makes use of the harddisk. The devs say the reason their jumping ship on ps3 cause it takes to long to make a game for that it that eats up all their profit and sony won't get in touch with them to work somthing out. Now they say GT5 will not be out till 2008 and that they may not beable to fix the downscale to 480p if you don't got a 720p or 1080p tv so in other words were phucked with it comes to that their advise is to go buy another hdtv nahh sorry my 360 works fine on my current hdtv im not going to blow some more cash just cause the ps3 can't upscale like the 360.

Awww, quit your whining. :D The way I see it, they're focusing their resources to make 1 uber awesome GT than 2 mediocre ones. And you guys should be happy that you have a PS3 while we have none. I hope they get rid of the 5 sec penalty cause it's real bs how the other cars can hit you and they don't slow down at all.

You guys should have never expected GTHD to be so great anyway. They said all along it was just a graphically tuned up GT4.

Heard about this a few days ago, definitely good news. GTHD would have been a total waste of precious development time.
