sharkport/xport question

Ok. Someone probably covered this...can someone tell me how this works on the ps2? It looks like a simple usb cable.

the xport/sharkport is for transfer save fle, edit icons etc.. on your saved games in the MC.;) ;)

and uplaod codes i assume....but what is it? just a 2 sided usb cable?
