hi ppl!,
is there any place i can get info about the ps2 protection scheme?
Regarding the dvd's, cd's, etc...
I would like to try another to resolve it. With or without a modchip.
Because, if some people can use original demo cd's and boot backup's for example. There's got be a flaw from where we start.
Even to do a more simple chip.
Thanks everibody,
IceWind

The PS2 protection mechanism is this, according to all the latest wisdom. I'll assume that you are familiar with basic CD/DVD technology. If you're not, then this information will not be of great use to you and your venture.
The pressed disk contains a coded sequence that identifies the disk as being a valid PS2 game.
At the start of the spiral groove that worms all the way round and across the disk, data is pressed in the form of pits and lands that is not entirely centred in the groove. That particular data stream wobbles, albeit within detectable and correctable limits. The wobbled data is present on each disk presented to the factory for game pressing; it is a closely guarded Sony process.
When the game is loaded, the laser collecting diodes focus the result which is noted to be off centre by a specific (and expected) degree. This measurement is noted and reported to the PS2. An algorithm decodes both the wobble and the data and if what it finds matches what it expects for that PS2 (data held in the Boot ROM = BIOS) then the game is passed on for loading (no Red Screen).
If you try and copy the disk, then the software, such as PrimoDVD or CloneCD, merley corrects the wobble. If such a copied game is booted without a modchip, then it comes to Red Screen because the algorithm, when applied at boot time, fails to match.
So that's cut all the crap and is how it works. Sony patented the method and you can look it up in the US Patent Office Records. I think it's US Patent nos: 5414688 and 5832088.
Will you keep us posted on progress please?
