Basically the topic, thnx. I really need to transfer them someway via the network adapter, please someone help me, I've heard this thing can do that. Can it also rip gamesaves too to your PC's HDD and transfer them the same way? Thank you. VERY MUCH. I'm not lying, if someone tells me, you ARE GOD to me.

for one, what format are the saves in?

If these are saves from say the Action Replay, Codebreaker, or Gameshark site the method will be different then just copying over a simple raw save folder....

.NPO's. The memory card formats.
Ok, so that means your using nPort saves.

--EDIT 1: If you already have your savegames on your Memory Card and want to transfer them to your HDD or PC, then uLaunchELF is the best method for doing this right now. uLaunchELF will preserve your savegame timestamps and attributes correctly. You have to use mcPaste for this though. This is explained in my next post.

--EDIT 2: If you no longer have your savegame stored on your memory card and have your .NPO save file on your computer, then you can use my described method below. BUT!, I'm pretty sure my explained method below isn't the best way, since this method doesn't correctly save your savegame timestamps or attributes. I posted it because it works, but if you can somehow transfer your savegames without losing it's timestamp or attributes, then do it that way instead.

With your .NPO save game file already on your computer, you can use "PS2 Save Builder" to extract all your save files to a folder (the correct save folder name), and then transfer it to your MC using uLaunchELF. You can get PS2 Save Builder here (http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=74).

I've never used nPort before, so to test this I just downloaded a copy of an ICO Xport savegame and converted it to an nPort .NPO save file.

I then used PS2 Save Builder to extract these files to a separate folder. One of the files in that new folder was called "BASCUS-97113ico". This is what your save game folder should be named as well. The reason the extracted save game files are set up like this (not just one file), is because this is how save games appear on your Memory Card.

Then I just used uLaunchELF to transfer the new folder, now named "BASCUS-97113ico" (containing all the extracted .NPO files) to the MC using an ordinary USB device.

Here's how that ICO Save would look like on my Memory Card (transferred using uLaunchELF):
Path: mc0/BASCUS-97113ico/
..
BASCUS-97113ico
boy_blk.ico
game.000
game.001
game.002
game.003
game.004
game.005
game.006
game.007
game.008
game.009
icon.sys
When I tested this with ICO, I started the game and was able to load this transferred save I converted no problem.

--EDIT 3: Can someone please explain to me why savegame timestamps and attributes are so important, or is it only certain special games like GTA-SA that are affected?

Transferring game saves using uLaunchELF Summary:

MC<->MC: mcPaste is not available, as it's not needed between two MCs.
MC<->HDD: use "mcPaste" for game saves, "mcPaste" or regular "Paste" for homebrew.
MC<->USB: "mcPaste" for game saves, "mcPaste" or regular "Paste" for homebrew.
MC<->Host: "mcPaste" for game saves, "mcPaste" or regular "Paste" for homebrew.
HDD<->USB: "mcPaste" is not available, as it's impossible between two non-MC media.
HDD<->Host: "mcPaste" is not available, as it's impossible between two non-MC media.
USB<->Host: "mcPaste" is not available, as it's impossible between two non-MC media.

About mcPaste:

mcPaste is ONLY intended for handling backups of commercial game saves, since homebrew stuff mostly ignore MC attributes and timestamps. Using mcPaste for homebrew stuff won't be harmful, but it simply isn't necessary.
mcPaste is intended to backup saves from MC to any non-MC media, or to restore such backups from any non-MC media to MC. But the safest media of all to use is a PS2 IDE HDD, as it allows all filenames that are valid on MC.

Some games, GTA in particular but there are more, check everything about a save to check it's 'authenticity' this includes the icon and even the file attributes. Until now homebrew software has not set the correct file attributes and it has only been possible to transfer saves with commercial products. uLE, and more specifically, mcPaste, have solved this issue :)
Timestamps are used in several games to determine the last save made and to autoload it or use it in display order for the load screen.

ps2dragon, I'd appreciate it if you would change that lkink to PS2 Save Builder to this one (http://www.ps2savetools.com/download.php?op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=74) and in future link to that page rather than leeching the file, thanks :)

So, if an icon is missing from a saves folder, then that's how you would consider it non-authentic? I still have no idea how you check a files attributes... or maybe I just didn't come across the right posts about it yet.

Thanks, at the time of my post I couldn't find a link to a webpage focusing on only that application, so I linked to the file instead. I have since located the same link you just provided. Anyway, thanks for the heads up, cause even though I've read over the rules, they are not always specific to the situation as in the case here. Unless save builder is considered warez or was indeed build with an SDK (which is not always clear to some people).

More like if the icon is not the one that the game uses. The name escapes me but it was a sequel to a ninja game and if the icon wasn't correct it would not load the save, instead it simply informed teh user the save was corrupt when clearly it wasn't.
Some games will check to see that all files are present that should be in a save before loading it.

It's not warez, it's more so that you linked directly to a file on my site, I prefer people to link to the download page of the program not the actual zip :)

So that means if the game can load the save game, then there is nothing to worry about? I'm pretty sure there's more too it (as in the case of GTA-SA), but I'm not sure. After reading all the programming commentary about timestamps and attributes, I guess I've become a little confused about it.

Ok, no problem... link was changed immediately ;D. I had no idea that was your site, I completely forgot, it's been a while since I've been reading over the news section... great site by the way. Always nice to see well designed sites.

There are two methods of transferring files with your Network Adapter (if your using uLaunchELF):

uLaunchELF has a built-in FTP client (called "PS2Net") which you can use to transfer any type of files to your PS2 MC or HDD from your PC via Network. Any compatible FTP software like FlashFXP or FileZilla will work with PS2Net.
uLaunchELF also has a feature called "HOST" which allows you to transfer files between your PC and PS2 via Network. You would need a program like "ps2client" or "Rad Host Client" for this to work.

So in conclusion, you can use either one of these two methods.

Thnx but just got it to work before I read that, used ExecFTP and FlashFXP and it worked, I can transfer/rip game saves freely now, thnx anyway.

you should get better speed from using uLaunch Elf for FTP transfers.. also if you want you can use PS2Client with PS2AutoClient to detect when you are trying to connect to your PC from the PS2... it will auto launch PS2Client so that you can browse preset folders from the PS2...

Imagine not having to go to the computer to send a file to the MC, but to only launch ULE and browse your PC from it... works great!

Thanks PS2Dragon for grabbing this one.. haven't had the chance yet. :)

^Too lazy, I'd rather just pop in the ExecFTP disc and run FlashFXP and transfer. Thnx anyway though. I'm allright with this, and it seems fast enough for/to me, and I got no probs with it.

Hum, :chinscrat All you would have to do to use uLaunchELF's FTP is run 'MISC/PS2Net' which you can assign button to. It works like ExecFTP only far better. :)

Is it possible to copy from MC to Host using uLaunchElf? How? Thx!

I dunno about "Host", but you can browse over to your MC, Press L1 (or maybe its R1) which will convert the folder name into a name of a game. Then just select that game, do "copy" from the menu, then on the hard drive to a "mcpaste" (NOT paste). When you want to transfer the save from HD back to MC, do the same (copy, mcpaste).

/edit: bleh, looks like this was answered back in post no 5. I thought this was the beginning of the thread. Oh well.

You need RadHostClient or ps2client to use Host in uLaunchELF. You can get the latest RadHostClient here (http://www.freewebtown.com/radsoft/software/radhostclient.html), or ps2client here (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=37242) (bottom of post).

ps2client needs to be run from a DOS window, and RadHostClient is a windows app. Just start either program and then browse to Host in uLaunchELF.

Of course it is!:)

1. Connect your PS2 over network with your PC
2. PS2: Start LaunchELF (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showpost.php?p=261143&postcount=1), use the filebrowser to go to host, in order to activate the network-adapter and go back to root. (or use the "PS2NET"-command which also starts the FTP-server)
3. PC: Start your PC-side client (PS2Client or RadHostClient) (I'm using the RadHostClient-Automator (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showpost.php?p=313170&postcount=26))
4. PS2: Browse to host again to see your shared folders.
5. PS2: Now you can browse to your MC, copy your saves and use mcPaste to copy them to host.

I use this very often and it's working great!

You can also use FTP to transfer saves, but without "mcPaste" the file-attributes are lost and the save may be corrupt, if copied back. (e.g. GTA-SA)

Thank you for the answers, but it doesn't work.

I´m going to mc and copy a file, then i go to host, when i press R1 button only the copy and get size options are enable.

I´m using Windows XP with a NTFS HD

Here's your problem, you need to set the NET_HOSTwrite variable to "1" instead of "0" (default) in your LAUNCHELF.CNF file. Read the info directly from the change history below. The reason for having this variable set to "0" as a default is explained here (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showpost.php?p=309218&postcount=930).

LaunchELF v3.44 (2006.02.18)
-Implemented HOST interface write access to networked PC. This uses a new CNF variable named "NET_HOSTwrite" which has a default value of "0" meaning it is disabled. For reasons of safety there is no way to change this value from the config menu. Edit it yourself, and set its value to "1" (or any other non-zero value) to enable the new abilities, which include the following menu functions 'Cut', 'Paste', 'mcPaste', 'Delete', 'Rename', 'New Dir'. Note that most of the new functions require a very recent version of ps2client or RadHostClient to function, and at present the 'Rename' function only works with the ps2client version specially patched for LaunchELF. (Available in the LaunchELF forum.) (NB: file writing seems bugged in RadHostClient v1.5)

EDIT: My first reply to you contains the latest version of RadHostClient and correct version of ps2client, that works with this feature.

Um, just to ease on confusion -- PS2Net is not a FTP client, it's a FTP Server. It only takes anonymous login (User: anonymous). This confused me anyway so I had to go away from this thread to read som more doc on PS2Net
