I can do the directly to my PC method via crossover... but how through my router?

I have WRT54G v5. I am using ethernet.

My router local is:
MAC Address: 00:14:BF:76:DE:6E
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enable
Start IP Address: 192.168.1.100
End IP Address: 192.168.1.149

I connected using a standard ethernet, I tried the settings
192.168.1.105
255.255.255.000
192.168.1.1

But they don't work, my router doesn't see it...

Edit: Tried turning DCHP off... no luck.

Your router gives away IP addresses from 192.168.1.100

so if your puter is on first, it would get 192.168.1.100

if u turn on your PS2 afterthat. it would get 192.168.1.101

and so forth...
so give your SP2 1982.168.1.101

and it will work, i have a router too, a LINKSYS WRTG54G V2.0

you are better off not setting your PS2 IP within the set DHCP.... because you have a static IP....

Set it to under the DHCP starting point...

my Linksys is set to ....

My router local is:
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enable
Start IP Address: 192.168.1.50
End IP Address: 192.168.1.255

I connected using a standard ethernet, I tried the settings
192.168.1.20 PS2 IP
255.255.255.0 NetMask
192.168.1.1 Gateway (router's IP)

I set it under the DCHP... this way the router knows that the PS2 is not an auto assigned IP.

just try setting your PS2 IP under the 100 mark you have set... and let it rip.. should work then...

Tried it, also tried with the DCHP off, as I said earlier.

Edit: Hmm it works, but my router doesn't see the connection...

That would only be for the DHCP server. I'm sure <*.100 are available from the router, they are just not part of the DHCP IP pool.

it works, but my router doesn't see the connection...
That must be because you are manually setting the IP, i.e., it is not assigned (leased) by DHCP. This is normal.

hmm, so when u set an IP to your PS2 UNDER the DHCP lease, it would still connect ?

I thought it had to be in the DHCP pool :S

Yes, it's either one or the other: SET an IP, or let DHCP assign an IP. Routers have the ability limit the range so that DHCP IPs can co-exist with addresses that you manually set. The design assumes that you don't set manual IPs in the DHCP range because they would be in potential conflict with IPs that the DHCP server might assign (or have already assigned).

(ok, some older cheap routers limited the range of IP because they didn't have enough memory to hold big routing tables, but this isn't one of those)
