View Full Version : Loading GUI String Table...FAILED

I have re-edit config.dat with "notepad2"; the HDD partition and the path is ok now! :D
...but the boot sequence crashed on error parsing XML GUI with the message 'Loading GUI String Table...FAILED'

The quote above is from a different thread that is under a different problem. So I thought it would be a good idea to post a new thread since more and more people are experiencing the same thing.

After fixing the "(error -6)" and the "(error -2)" problems it hangs and outputs a message like the one above (Loading GUI String Table....FAILED). Does anyone have ideas or a solution to this problem. Thank you.

I have the same problem as well.
Here is something I noticed.
When I run myPS2 from MC, the loading screen displays:
SetElfPath: mc0:\myPS2\
but
When I run myPS2 from HDD, the loading screen displays:
SetElfPath: host:
So I think this problem is that when loading from HDD, there is a path problem & it can't find the files it needs.

I've had the same problem. In my case it was caused by a wrong path in the config.dat
It said
'hdd_boot_path = /MYPS2/'
while the folder of myPS2 was really named 'MyPS2'. So it seems the path is case-sensitive which led to the error.

So you created a partition only for myPS2 and in that partition there is a folder named MYPS2 and in that folder is the program?

What squares are you talking about?

i still kant get it to work from the HD, ive tried sooooo many variations of the way to write the boot stuff. those two lines. im about to give up. ive done it time and time again read all the threads, got it looking perfect, and even approved by someone else in another thread. still it freezes on this last fucking step.

my HDD is "hdd0:"

my partitions name is "+MYPS2"

theres a folder in that partition named "MYPS2"
that folder contains the skins,language,fonts folders. and the following files :config.dat, system, myps2.elf, and samba.xml

so it should look like:

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:+MYPS2
hdd_boot_path = /MYPS2/

RIGHT?¿?¿ well it doesnt work. when i open this file in notepad i have the little slanted square symbol things they told us to place at the end of the boot lines. i did that. this forum wont display that character though. so i cant show you.

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:+MYPS2?
hdd_boot_path = /MYPS2/?
"the ? marks on the end of the lines represents where that little slanted square is displayedthat i mentioned earlier, when i open my config.dat in notepad"

i was told i should put them there...so i did... i tried em without it and it still hung on that same step.

someone PLEASE read over this and re-post the two boot lines i wrote above and type em the way u think they should be. i'll try it out. any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I just tested it on my PS2. Created a MYPS2 partition using the DMS HDD Format tool and copied the MYPS2 folder from my __boot partition to the new one.
It worked perfectly using the config file I attached (rename it to CONFIG.DAT)

thank you for trying though. i do appreciate it.

Edit your config file and rewrite your language entry in tiny caps. ( FRANCAIS.XML -> francais.xml ) ;)
That may solve loading gui string table error...

That's all. :)

i got myps2 to work...it took a while to do. For some reason, the readme also has outdated information (like a /boot folder, which doesn't come with myps2 1.2). Also, the images folder is inside of the docs folder. No idea why its like that, so i had to move the images folder.

Lastly, the problem from this thread: you have to have a blank line at the end of your config.dat, and no blank spaces like mentioned here:

http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=44699

Also, watch your letter case!

I'll try to post a mini how to later on.

So wait, I have to move the images folder in order to get this to run off HDD? It runs perfectly fine from CD, and I have my CONFIG.DAT just like its suppost to be, but still loading gui string failed.

Maybe i am wrong...i thought that was the issue when i was getting the "could not mount partition (errno -2)", but that was because i wasn't putting in the '+' in front of the paritition name. I'll check tommorrow, and see if its ok to just leave the images folder inside of the docs folder. Sorry, its just that i had done so many different things, that i might have forgotten a bit.

Listed below are some files to assist users having trouble running myps2. one will boot directly into myps2 from cd-r (instructions for this are easy just burn the bin&cue and boot using your ps2)

the second you will need to download both part 1 & 2 to unpack; this will install myps2 to dev1, the instructions for use are really easy to follow and there is a readme included. just burn the bin&cue (bootable) and read the readme file (located on the disc) to install myps2 to memory card and load from dev1.

I figured I would post them here (MyPS2 forum ;)) these methods posted have been tested and do work! :) I tried to make the readme for the dev1 install as straight forward as possible.

Notes:

- If your modchip does not support dev1' launching; Another option is to install myps2 to whatever dev1' (memory card) directory you choose then execute the boot.elf (BOOT' Folder) or manager.elf (MANAGER' Folder) using "uLaunchELF (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showpost.php?p=261143&postcount=1)"

- I'm posting an alternative boot cd for myps2 v1.2, if you had problems booting using the first boot cd try the alternative version depending on your ps2 console type/setup you may need to use the alternative version.

- Those who want to run myps2 from the hdd/usb drive or for those having trouble networking with samba please view the following myps2 forum thread by clicking here (http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?p=318354#post318354) :)

read the included readme on the dev1 install disc, I purposly deleted my folders on my memory card and used the install disc to install to my memory card using the dev1 intstall disc and it does work.

i read it and u simply use launchelf :) u could make an install file with like 500 install commands :P

yeah, lol

I opted not to go that route. ;) I posted the files mainly to help noobs and people having problems with the gui string error. uLaunchELF's excellent mcpaste command works great for this and with the readme I figure it should be easy for anyone (even noobs) to install myps2 onto dev1.

just what exactly is dev1? is it device 1 or mc 1 or something else?

/edit: nevermind, its if you want to run it as the first launcher, i.e. Boot.elf. Well, at least thats what i think it is, correct me if i am wrong.

dev1 = auto launching elf file from the memory card after reboot

dev2 = auto launching elf file from the hard drive after reboot

depending on the modchip the button on joypad 1 differs, but by holding the correct button on your controller after reboot it will launch the installed elf automatically.

edit:

standard locations for installation of application (elf)

dev1 (mc0) = /BOOT/BOOT.ELF

dev2 (hdd) = /__boot/boot.elf

Thats right, i have been busy till 05:00 in the morning to get myps2 working from DEV2 mode, but no luck, keep getting " loading gui string table... FAILED.'

i wonder where it fails exactly, is it at the end when its looking for the boot paths? or is there an error in one of the previous options?

i tried this as a config:

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:__boot
hdd_boot_path = /__boot/

and this:

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:/__boot/
hdd_boot_path = /__boot/

and this:

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:__boot
hdd_boot_path = __boot

dint work :(

I'm with you broodje. I've also tried
hdd_boot_part = hdd0:__boot
hdd_boot_path =

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:__boot
hdd_boot_path = /

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:+__boot
hdd_boot_path =

hdd_boot_part = hdd0:+__boot
hdd_boot_path = /

None of which worked of course

note:
for some reason the flag __boot partition used for the matrix/dms chips for dev2 launch seems to have issues launching MyPS2 directly from dev2 I am not sure why this might be :chinscrat

yeah, my best guess is myps2 has trouble with launching from system partitions (the __ is a prefix for a system partition). I would have posted a myps2 dev2 install attachment if only there would be a way it would work. :badpc:

Yep indeed, i figured the same thing bout the underscores__, so were kinda stuck i guess.
