Noob need help playing AVI from usb hdd

I have a crystal 1.1 chip with bm 1.8. i got sms 1.5 rev 3, and put the elf file like this:
Q:\BOOT\APPS\SMS Version 1.5 (Rev.3).elf
Q:\BOOT\USBD.IRX
on my usb flash drive

i went into bm 1.8, install app, source set to USBMASS, destination set to M0. selected install app, and the screen just says Please Wait. Nothing happens.

can someone give me a step by step tutorial to get sms to boot off my mc and to have it run avi's off a usb hdd?

i tried the crystal 1.1 megapack. i do the same thing, and i see SMS in the install app, but after i install and go to run, there's nothing there. wtf?

try installing uLaunchelf and use that to boot SMS

ok, i managed to install sms 1.5 rev3. i load it, and it says Locating USBD.IRX......

and it doesn't do anything

i don't have usbd.irx on the megapack cd. where do i put it?

how do i copy it to the memory card?

When SMS doesn't do anything, and displays Locating USBD.IRX..., it probably means that SMS is trying to load an incompatible USBD.IRX that it already found on your memory card. If removing your MC fixes the freeze, you need place a compatible USBD.IRX (e.g. from GT3, Naplink, PS2linux) in an appropriate place on your MC. You may need the one from PS2linux to get a USB HD to work, but you can't ask for it here. Maybe someone familiar with your modchip software can give more explicate directions. Good luck.

i got usbd.irx from naplink. how do i copy it to the memory card??? i read around, and i know i need to get usbd.irx onto the mc somehow.

do i need to use ftp? my ps2's not anywhere near my pc. and i'm not buying a wap anytime soon

isn't there a way to copy files from a cd to the mc?

Configure one of the buttons to launch /MISC/FileBrowser (this will make sense once you run uLaunchELF). You'll probably be able to copy USB to MC no problem (uLaunchELF has a built-in USBD.IRX),
