Hello.
I am from the UK. I brought a DMS 4 SE Lite modchip and recived it today.
I am a noob to this but i will be able to do the relvant soldering.
I recieved the wires, some solder and the chip (+ a v12 fix). No instructions or anything.
From what i can make out i believe i have a PS2 Version 5/6 (SCPH 30009R) and i have the install instructions from the website i brough it from:
http://www.modchip.com/installpics/dms4se/DMS4SE_V5_6_GH-0015.jpg
1. Is all i have to do is solder the wires to the correct place, then switch it on?
2. Where should the modchip be placed inside the ps2?
3. Do i have the version number right?
Regards.
P Plant.

are you sure its 30009
I have only heard of
30001
30002
30003
30004
a UK v5/6 should be 30003R

Is all i have to do is solder the wires to the correct place, then switch it on?

You will have to flash the bios on it before you can play any backups. It will only boot homebrew apps/games out the box. You will have to goto http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn and download the Toxic Bios 1.4 (not the Toxic OS 0.41 as this is for the PRO chips only and not the LITE chips) and burn that to a cd and boot it up and follow the on screen instructions and than you will be able to play backups, etc.
As for where to place the chip, look here http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=11400 for some ideas. There is 53 pages of ps2 installs, so you should get a good idea of how others do it. Use the diagram from the dms site here at http://www.dms3.com/dms4se/diagrams/DMS4SE_V4_GH-008_13.jpg for the v4 if you're sure thats the version you have. For points O,P,W,V use either the top or bottom points, not both.
You sound like you're never done a ps2 before and I don't know about your soldering experience, but ps2's can be a bitch at first. I practised a lot on old pc motherboards and video cards before I even touched a ps2.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Thanks very much for your reply.
http://www.teamtoxic.com.cn seems to be down at the moment. I'll have a look when it's back up.
I've had a look at the ps2 installs, very impressive. This will be my first time installing a modchip on a ps2, i need to buy a new soldering iron first, my other one is a bigger one and is too big for this job.
Thanks for the info.

Ya, the team toxic site is down at the moment. If you get it all installed, and the site is still down pm me and I'll send it to you. I ended up getting an antex soldering iron just for ps2's and small soldering like it. I got it here http://www.hmcelectronics.com/cgi-bin/scripts/product/6520-0001/ and some of their 1/64" tips.

here you go. Unzip this, and burn the bin/cue using nero/alcohol/etc and put the disc in the ps2, follow the on screen instructions and you should be ok.

turn it on and then press reset again straight away, thats how most are using them, on dms forums, it seems that lots of the se chips are having the same problem, it is a fault with the chip

I've just given that a go but it didn't work :(
We are going to double check the connections tonight. Any other ideas what could be wrong?

I Have Just Removed My First Dmspro Se And Sent It Back, Put A Matrix In, No More Problems.
I Am Betting Your Install Is Fine And Another Chip Will Fix The Problem, The Problem Is The Chip.

Well today I opened it and checked the connections, but they all looked ok, so i tried taking out the modchip/wires and the problem is still there, so obviously we screwed up the board when installing. :(
Lucky for me though, I brought a faulty PS2 that had a problem with the disk drive a while back, so i checked it and it had excactly the same board on it :) So i put that one in the PS2 we just messed up and the PS2 works fine. But it's not chipped which was my main aim :(
So i have some decisions to make.
1. Do i send this modchip back and get another chip thats perhaps easier to install? If so which ones are easier, i have a Version 4 PS2 so can't get the DMS EZ chip :(. The Matrix ones perhaps or another?
2. Or do i try installing it again, but this would be my last shot.
3. Any other advice?
Thanks.
Pete.

There is no chip that is really going to be easier. They all are pretty much the same wire count and points to solder to, give or take a wire here or there. You're best bet is to find someone who can do it and have them install it for you. Where abouts are you located? There is lots of installers on these board from all over the place that do install's. V4's a bit of a pain sometimes so its best to leave it to a pro or to practice like hell on the board you already toasted before you attempt it again. I had did a bunch of light mods and xbox's before I ever started on a ps2 and that was only after practicing on a bunch of old pc boards, video cards and than a toasted ps2 motherboard before I did my first ps2.

I am from the UK. I think we are going to give it another go, we have a better understanding about excactly what we need to do with it now.
I'm going away for a week so i'll have to do it probably next sunday/monday. Might practice a bit on some old PC boards we have.
Another question i have is what is the best way to attach the modchip onto the board?
dungbeetle46

just attach with double sided tape

Well, i've just given it a go with my other motherboard, the installation went ok i think.
When i turn it on, in about 1 second i get RSOD (Red screen of death), any ideas?

I went through checking all off the soldering points and ensuring that they are all in the correct place and i'm 95% sure that all the solders are correct. (there was one solder that was loose, so i put that right). So after checking them i started it and i just get a B(black)SOD, I can eject the tray, i've tried starting with and without the controller in, but still i get the BSOD.
I've also read that holding square when starting up will disable to the chip, i tried that but nothing happened.
Any ideas?
Check if you bridged any points
