Hey!

Maybe it's a silly question, maybe not...
... but is it also possible to use the usb driver if SMS is loaded via cd?

I tried it as it is said in the manual (using the naplink usb driver, keep in mind the capital...i also tried differend folders on the cd) but it seems not to work. well... at least my usb device does not work. i can also not figure out if the usb driver has even been loaded after starting (it will not be shown in messages).

so, my question is: is it possible to use that usb driver the way it is said in the manual, and if yes, how can i make sure the driver works.
maybe it's my device who doesn't work. (do usb sticks work at all? :chinscrat )

I hope someone can help me. :)

beside this problem SMS works quite good... much better then media player 1.5. also my hdd would work (if i had any movies on it).

If u did everything as it is stated in the manual, it's probably your stick that doesn't work with the PS2 or the USBD.irx file from naplink. Does it work with any other homebrew (uLaunchELF for example)?
If it doesn't I think u better use the HDD :p

Yes. Loading the program from CD does not in any way affect the USB driver functionality. You just have to make sure it gets loaded, and the best way to do that is ALWAYS to keep it stored as "USBD.IRX" inside a folder named "SYS-CONF" on mc0:. That is the most common place where software looks for it (including SMS).

It probably wasn't loaded, because I don't think SMS looks for it on the CD. If it does though, it would be in the same place where SMS itself is launched, because that is a path a launched program can find without having it in the source code (which is where I looked).

The only thing you can do is to place it where it will get loaded, as mentioned above. No configuration of that driver is needed (or possible).

maybe it's my device who doesn't work.
We can't rule that out...

They certainly do.
I have used SMS with two different USB devices. One is a flash memory (a 64MB HP Disgo) and the other is a USB HDD. (A normal IDE HDD inside an enclosure with USB interface.) Both of them work just fine.

thanks for the answers!

i guess it just doesn't work when you use sms with the cd. unfortunately i am not able to try the mc way... well.. i think so.... i have a very old mod chip in my ps2 (i even can't remember which one), and this chip is not able to boot from the mc. so i guess i am not able to write anything on it, or am i wrong?

es u can, if u are able to boot SMS using the CD I suppose u can also boot another ELF, like uLaunchELF. So just boot it and transfer the files u want to the MC using FTP for example (u can check the SMS manual for more information on this).

Just make a bootable CD with uLaunchELF on it. Once you have that, you can do pretty much anything. It will allow you to copy files over to your memory cards and such.
