I think we will see loads of skins poping up for this nice app.
so why not post your skins here?

Heres my first. just the background and the dialog background edited.

I'm trying to do a Windows theme, but there's something wrong with the way the background shows up. The bottom portion of the screen is covered by enlarged icons as you can see in the screen shots. I don't know why it does that. I was wondering if it has something to do with PAL and NTSC conflict. If anybody has experienced similar problems, any help would be appreciated. Other than that, everything else is going pretty good. I still have to change the fonts around a bit but I already have the right type of dialog box, the clock in the corner, and a media player menu - also, when you move to each folder it changes to a folder for pics, files, music, etc. There is HUGE potential for customization for this program, I only hope that we won't have to redo all of this for each future version.

Ok, I'm getting closer. I still have to adjust the fonts, but I fixed the screen problem. I also added a button on the bottom that shows when a song is playing. If you look closely it says "myps2" at the bottom, but I don't know if I can make that any more readable. Also I'd like to have a label for the power off button. I need to come up with other backgrounds for the other screens - settings, pictures, etc. too.

Here is a background I made, partially inspired by retro

Here's the boot background. I want to make the fonts invisible so that this is all you see when it starts up.

Hi,
about your display errors, try to keep the dimensions of your textures powers of two and see if that makes any difference. Also you should try to keep your textures small so that they will fit into the video ram

Here's the media player. I added a clock in the corner and fixed the myps2 logo where the "start" button should be. I'll see if I can put the current time down in the box in the control panel. I'm having troubles with the buttons though. I want a template picture that's always there, then each button to light up when you move to it. I think all the pictures are just appearing at the same time on top of eachother...
Edit: I abandoned the template thing, in favor of the traditional focus, nofocus style but I still get little white lines below the pictures of the buttons. The only button that doesn't have any problems is the loop button, but I did everything the same for each so I don't know why that one shows up fine and the others don't.

Hey, great program, I love the concept. I have a problem though, I can not change the background picture at all. I have succesfully changed many of the icons in the program, but I can't just seem to change the background.
To give more information, all I am doing is taking a background of my choice, saving it to a .png file, and pasting it over the original background you included. I made sure it has the same dimensions and filename as your original background file but all I get is a black screen after it boots.
Any suggestions?

Here's the settings screen. I put the current mp3 time on the button on the bottom and a clock in the corner. This setup will be the template for the other screens (network, harddrive, language, etc.)

Here's a picture of the onscreen keyboard and slightly modified media player. It took a while to get the keyboard looking right. I added a volume slider to the media player, but I still can't get the other buttons to show up correctly...it's like there's 2 different settings for the texturefocus and texturenofocus pictures, because they squeeze and expand when I switch between them, however they are all the same dimensions. For some reason, Play and Previous track are fine, and Next track is Ok when you have it highlighted, but the other buttons are messed up even though they all have the same height and width. I'm close to releasing the whole skin pack - I just need to figure this out first.

nice skins :)
@Fnu Lnu:
if your display mode is NTSC and the skin is PAL (or vice versa) all control coordinate/dimension values are scaled because NTSC and PAL have different display resolutions. If that's not the problem you could try to replace the broken images withthe ones from the default skin. if they work it's probably a problem with the dimensions of your textures

Just thought I would add an early sceenshot of the skin I have currently in development. I only have the main page coming together now, still need to add the shut down button, and working on the others now.
The icons get slightly bigger as you choice them......you will obviously catch onto the them.

Exactly one week after myps2 ver 1.0 was released, I now give you the first skin. Just unzip the rar file and look at the Read Me.

@ JFA: I don't know what you want to be renamed. If you're talking about the media files, most of them are just copied-over versions of the originals and the ones I needed to add are named in a similar fashion. If you're talking about the .xml files, I do believe they have to be named the same in order to be recognized by the source code of the program.

For those who launch from the MC, i made an icon so you dont have that blue cube saying 'Corrupt Data'. Just put the icon.sys & the myps2.icn in the folder with all the other myps2 files. They must be small letters, not in caps.
Heres a .bmp for preview. The icon is a 3D Cube with it on all sides. Dont put the .bmp from the .rar on the MC

Ok Thx FNU LNU that we can distribute your Skins we know that a lot of things to do for a good Skin and its a hard work - and we think is it better to ask you that is it allowed.
we think the Copyright is yours - is your work and we respect that:applaud:

The more the merrier - the more people that have a chance to download the skin, the better I feel knowing that I contributed something. I don't know any programming languages so when I started messing with the XML files and found them fairly easy to modify, I figured this was my chance to give something back to everyone in the PS2 community - especially those that have made the great apps and tools we use that I can't imagine being without. I actually thought about sneaking in some kind of copyright or signature of mine into the skin but thought against it. However I would appreciate it if you post the skin elsewhere that you say I created it.

intergrete the default skin note: allow for alternating between the linux skin and the defualt myps2 skin in the myps2 options
whats planned (later)
Main Music Icons & Layout
100% MyPS2 Fonts

??? I dont understand what that mean...can you please put it in english?
its just a theme, you will notice I used the mandrake star, the red hat icon, and a debian flag; being as its not linux (duh) and just a theme I wanted to have a combo of different linux distro of sorts blended in.

What I meant, was just don't put the word "Linux" r the penguin picture in your theme because that would ruin it.
And BTW, after you are done this, can you make an all black one without the new icons or one that is kind of PS2 themed?

there is no penguin in version v1.0 of the theme and I havent added the word linux besides in the theme name. yes, I will probably do more themes (ps2, beos...ect)
Installation (readme.txt included)
copy/replace the entire "skins" folder with the one included in this package :) uLaunchELF works
good for this. this theme is inclusive and you can always revert back to the original myps2 skin
by entering Settings-Skins-(Choose Skin from the list of skins in the menu); it should take a few
seconds while myps2 parsings the skin on the fly. when the new skin is appied just save settings
if you wish for that skin to be your defualt on boot/reboot :-)
v1.2
- Changed Focus Color Scheme For Fonts
- Replaced Most Of The Remaining Original Icons
- Some Other Visual Tweaks
- If there are not any major changes to the skins xml files it should be compatible with any future version of myps2
v1.1
- intergreted linux theme w/default theme (thanks ntba2; note: default theme still original/unchanged)
- Added Penguin Error Symbol (looks good)
- New Progress Bar Implimented
- New Power Button Icon
v1.0
- Replaced Main Background
- Replaced 80% Of The Main Icons
I'll be finished once I make some radical changes to the audio player; I hope you like what is done so far post any suggestions; I enjoy making skins anyway and I thought others might like to try my skin/s; below you will also find a myps2 boot cd including the linux theme and the defualt if you want to demo or test switching skins (download both part 1&2 to unpack bin&cue). sorry about the low quality preview (composite cables) it looks a whole lot better on the tv ;)

@Fnu Lnu
Awesome windows xp environment! notice I called it a environment not skin or theme with the spacing adjustments and layout you completely overhauled myps2 into what feels like windows xp, I hope you don't mind but I made a successful attempt at resurrecting your excellent work. :ups:
Fnu Lnu's XP Environment/Theme Update:
- Added Samba.xml
- Added Samba To Network.xml [/U](samba has been tested but as of yet can not be configured in the settings menu under the xp environment must edit config.dat when using the xp environment or have it already edited-all skins use the same config.dat.....)
- Edited & Renamed English.xml [/U](msenglish.xml)
- Intergreted XP theme w/Default & Other Themes
- removed the original xp startup background (was causing problems)
- Few Other Things...MyPS2 v1.2 Compatible
The download below has a simular installation all you need to do is copy/replace the entire skins folder with the one in the archive, but you will also need to transfer the msenglish.xml file to the language folder if you wish to use the proper text for the xp skin layed out by fnu lnu. After this is finished all you need to do is boot myps2 and pick your skin from the setting menu (and choose msenglish if using the xp skin of course) ;)

@flamingo24: Thank you for taking an interest in my Windows themed skin. I don't mind if you make changes to match new releases of the program, but I will expect more thourough testing before you release a new version of this skin. Attached are some pictures of the Settings menu. There is a black bar along the left side of the screen and text and pictures hang off of it. Also, the settings screens seem to jump up and down as you browse each menu and there is no start menu at the bottom of any of them. And if you want to show what the buttons do on these screens, I would suggest using label commands rather than typing on the background as this text gets really pixelated. You could have pictures of the buttons too if you like. I've never used Samba, but there doesn't seem to be any way to configure it in the settings - there is an icon of some sort but nothing to select. Additionally, there is a problem with the music control buttons in the My Music screen - pushing left and right moves to the wrong button.
I had difficulty switching skins when I simply copied the whole skins folder. I had to delete the "default" and "linux" folders and rename the "windows" folder to "default" in order for the skin to work - I'm not sure why, but it would lock up if I loaded the default skin and tried to switch to windows. You also forgot to include the lanugage xml file in the download package.
I was thinking that once we get the overall look and setup down, we can start to make additional main menu screens using the template with the start menu at the bottom and the menu bar to the left. Personally I prefered the original field background, but can release this template so other people can insert whatever other background they want.

There is a black bar along the left side of the screen and text and pictures hang off of it. Also, the settings screens seem to jump up and down as you browse each menu and there is no start menu at the bottom of any of them.
Your original theme was great but there were many mistake made when you edited and created the background, first the start menu bar you pasted to the background had the wrong x & y positions coupled with the fact you edited your xml files based on those inaccuate positions; which then made the lower left, right, & bottom of the the menu non-visible and that made for people to force the x & y in the setting menu to get a clear picture. use the default x & y position and it should show up normal if not I have a question are you using a pal or an ntsc telivision set? I forgot to mention that for the time being I erased the start menu for the settings options so that is why you wont see it! You are asking me to do more testing I'm just fixing what you created...
if you want to show what the buttons do on these screens, I would suggest using label commands rather than typing on the background as this text gets really pixelated. You could have pictures of the buttons too if you like.
I am using this method as a temporary hack, when I clear out all the bugs or just rewrite the whole skin I am already planning on adding "triangle" & "cross" symbols on the corners of the xml files that use the browsebackground.png (using seperate icons, labled in the xml file) along with text lables opposed to using hard text :-)
I've never used Samba, but there doesn't seem to be any way to configure it in the settings - there is an icon of some sort but nothing to select. Additionally, there is a problem with the music control buttons in the My Music screen - pushing left and right moves to the wrong button.
Accually this was your issue you created when you completly removed the "go back" switch in the mymusic.xml file instead of using the "<visible>0</visible>" call.. additionally when you rearanged the <down>, </up>, </left>,</right> you also rearanged the xml tree and that caused some serious issues with the player where the cursor would sometimes completly fall off the screen and freeze the program :=/ Also there were even more serious errors in your original myfiles.xml where you couldnt browse the options on the left until you highlighted a file + the "copy" command was located in the wrong place much like your original audio player icons (this is why the second right brings you to the far left first). It is note worthy that its not just those xml files that still have issues eather!
Additionally the samba menu has yet to be fully implimented as stated in my previous posts ;) this is why I expect it not to load the samba options from the windows theme (at the moment). I am not merlin and I dont have a magic wand so I will release fixes & menus as we go.
Your language file is not needed anymore if you would read my post as what was changed I removed it cause it was causing a serious crash when I switch over to your language file then tried to run an elf file with myfiles it would crash unless I rebooted first (this is why I am for the time being using hard text)! Did you by chance attempt to switch to your english.xml file in the Interim before it crashed? You should also give myps2 at least a full 60-85 seconds before assuming it crashed (it takes awhile to parsing the xml files yah know)
I was thinking that once we get the overall look and setup down, we can start to make additional main menu screens using the template with the start menu at the bottom and the menu bar to the left. Sounds like a plan; I really like your overall theme Idea and the seperation of backgrounds with mymusic (aka media player) was a top notch addition. :)

there were many mistake made when you edited and created the background...I have a question are you using a pal or an ntsc telivision set?
I have an NTSC set. I noticed that the bottom was cut off but assumed it was my aging television. When I took screenshots however, it showed up correctly. Also, nobody ever mentioned that it was off - leading me to believe it really was just my TV - otherwise I would've done what I could to fix it.
you also rearanged the xml tree and that caused some serious issues with the player where the cursor would sometimes completly fall off the screen and freeze the program
I never experienced anything like that before and I checked, re-checked, and then checked again every possible direction on each choice. Right now they are messed up. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that I may have just not properly transfered (or copied over) the the right xml file or something.
Also there were even more serious errors in your original myfiles.xml where you couldnt browse the options on the left until you highlighted a file + the "copy" command was located in the wrong place...
This was not an error, and it was stated in the ReadMe file. It seemed more intuitive to only allow access to those commands after making a selection. It was much quicker to mark a file and push left and go right to copy, then mark a file, move over and tick down each choice until you reached the more pertinent functions. In the instance that one would still want to choose the Arrange functions, all you had to do was just mark a file and move over. Again, no one objected to this design change, so I believed it to be a wise decision.

Yes I waited a considerable time before concluded it had locked up. I'm sure you would encounter problems trying to use my ver 1.1 skin with myPS2 ver 1.2. If there were other commands they probably didn't get transfered over and would conflict with the skin created for an earlier version.
I've been pretty busy lately, and will continue to be for a while, but whenever I get a chance I'll take a better look at the xml files and stuff and see what I can do.

They are not messed up the only thing is I have to move the "previous track" button to the far left of the rest of the icons and it should be fine ;)

In the instance that one would still want to choose the Arrange functions, all you had to do was just mark a file and move over. Again, no one objected to this design change, so I believed it to be a wise decision.
Being a windows theme that is not a vary user friendly approach and to me it is a bug since it functions in a method that myps2 was not necessarily designed for...What if someone just wants to enter the myfiles menu only to change the sort options and not actually highlight files???
Yes I waited a considerable time before concluded it had locked up. I'm sure you would encounter problems trying to use my ver 1.1 skin with myPS2 ver 1.2. If there were other commands they probably didn't get transfered over and would conflict with the skin created for an earlier version.
I have already tested this and you are wrong, but I will give you the benifit of the doubt and say that maybe you installed the skins wrong or made the mistake of using your custom english.xml file while switching skins. ;) I switched in between themes many times as a test :-)
I've been pretty busy lately, and will continue to be for a while, but whenever I get a chance I'll take a better look at the xml files and stuff and see what I can do.
I'm probably going to rewrite your skin since it is plagued with so many issues, you will find the linux skin I have created works perfectly and that is the goal of the rewrite...I will however still credit you in the readme.txt :)
Edit/Update: With your windows theme I did more then just use your windows v1.1 theme on myps2 v1.2, using just the 1.0 and 1.1 files caused a error parsing files before it would even load the gui!

@Fnu Lnu there is no need to argue and start a bashing rampage on each others work, when I start rewriting I would appreciate any input or we could trade scripts for suggestions and keep in mind that a few of the fixes in the recent version were probably created by me while porting to v1.2... I would like to collaborate.
But when you start the first post regarding my work on your windows theme (so far?..) with I expect you to do this and that; then go on to list a scathing aria of issues you term as major problems your having!!! It is quite condescending as you started digging in instead of asking why?.I only wanted to release a partial fix for a major issue with the screen positioning for the most part?
I?m folding on your comments as you perhaps can on my part and maybe we could be more of partners then critics; After all we?d be more helpful to one another working as a team then seeing each other as sparing partners?
I hate flame wars because they are lame, I want to take the first step in ending this tribunal of insults and get back to work on skinning.. :)

Ok, man. No more flamin'. It just really caught me off guard, and was quite offensive, to hear that my work had "many mistakes" and "plagued with so many issues" when it was largely due to screen positioning problems I was not aware of since no one else mentioned any problems with the skin for the months that it has been around. But yeah, it would be good to have more than one person tackling this thing, two heads are better than one after all. Anyway, if the screen position settings look correct to you, and mine look correct to me, we need a nonpartial observer to tell us both which looks best before we can move any further. But if all the text, backgrounds, and icons, are going to be moved around they must be consistant throughout all the menu screens. We'll have to make sure everything is lined up and visible (on your PS2 and mine) before telling people to install the new skin.
You can see in the Settings screenshot that I made a picture that serves as a guide as to what buttons do what, though I still feel this is unnecessary. The controls are explained in the ReadMe. And with only 2 buttons (that are mapped to common PS2 navigation controls) I think our users can easily figure out how to select and go back. IMO having these controls kinda takes away from the clean interface and look of the Windows theme.
I changed the language and skins icons at the top to those actually used in Windows - this leaves only about 6 unchanged graphics! Speaking of language, ability to select a timezone and daylight savings time was absent. These have been added and adjusted to match the rest of the theme, though they can probably be moved higher up on the page. The Power Off buttons have been altered as well to match the rest of the fonts. I fixed the problems with the buttons in MyMusic, but just by replacing the file with my old one. I checked each direction and had no problems - nothing fell off the screen or locked up. The tricky part is accessing the volume slider since you can't come to it or go from the left or right or it'll mess with the volume.
And I think we should consider changing the MyFiles controls back to the way I had them. It takes a little getting used to, yes, but I found it to be a bit more intuitive with the order of the commands in order of likely usage. I couldn't find a way to move directly over to "Copy" after making a selection without having to disable the above arranging commands. We could at least have both myfiles.xml files and the user can choose which one they like best.
In addition to these changes, I removed some unused files.
The version attached is not recommended for public use, it is merely for flamingo to get the new icons and examine the other changes.

Looks Good ;) instead of doing a rewrite if you could fix the x/y positions that would be awsome :)
But why do you have the cursor to access the play position up from sort by name instead of down and over to volume control from the selection list? Because the way you have it set it's down from the selection list being volume control instead of play and right to volume then up to selection list...
I double checked but there is a crash in the myfiles.xml using the 1.2 ed. freezes when trying to enter my files.

try using this myfiles.xml and see if its a working alternative (press up to browse options & left for copy when highlighed) :)

It would be difficult for me to rewrite all the x and y positions since I thought it was fine the way it was. My stupid TV always cuts the tops and bottoms off programs I run on the PS2. That's why I proposed someone else have a look and see what they think about the position. Otherwise I guess I could tinker with one screen, say main.xml and when everything is visible on my TV I will send it to you and see how it looks on your TV - most likely there will be too much black space at the top and bottom. But once we come to an agreement on the positions, we can transfer the positions to all the other xml files. We could construct a formula by which to shift the x and y positions of each design element.
The reason the music player controls are set up the way they are is because for example, if I pushed right from Repeat to the volume, I would have to turn the volume all the way down to get back - up or down is the only way to get away from the volume slider without adjusting it in the process. The most obvious, simple solution I suppose would be to ax the volume slider all together. It does look pretty cool though, but I suppose function should supercede form. What do ya think? Should we just get rid of it? It's not like people don't have remote controls anyway.
The copy function thing still isn't working quite right yet. After selecting a file and moving to the left, if you go up or down the labels don't move in order of their appearance. I'd fix it, but I don't have the energy at the moment. I think by having both my copy method and the original xml files available, we would satisfy everybody, as long as there are instructions in the ReadMe. The problem is that the copy, rename, and delete functions are not always available - so in order to move right to them (instead of slowly moving down all the choices) you have to have something selected first, and this means having to make a selection even if you just want to rearrange the items or make a new folder.
P.S. I still can't seem to have more than one skin available at one time. I tried to load your linux theme, but it still locked up. I figured that since the linux theme shows up in the list of available skins that everything should be in place.

Nevermind I'm going to post a new myfiles I see what you are talking about where sort by name goes to start instead of copy I will fix this and post another myfiles.xml as an alternative sorry :=/ my bad
also will look into your mymusic.xml and make another post on the results.....
Edit/Update: np, will start fixing the positions.
I really don't like the idea of adding alternative xml files to choose from since it complicates the ease of use for some users (aka noobs).
try this myfiles.xml left options are now in perfect order (up & down) with the alternative command for browsing options without hightlighting first. :)

fixed, download the mymusic.xml below. ;) The controls are simple from the "MP3/M3U Selection List" press down from cdfs: to access play then move all the way to the right to access the volume control, from there you can eather press up to get back to the "MP3/M3U Selection List" or down again to return you to the loop track button :-) I have also added a bonus, if you press up from the volume and go back to the selection list you can always press down twice to get back to the volume control sorta like a shortcut.

The music.xml file is fine. One thing about the myfiles.xml though: do you think we could have it so when right is pressed from the selection list it will go directly to the start function? This was a feature I had before, and I thought it made it a little quicker to navigate. And since right is not assigned to the list, it shouldn't affect anything to add it. We should probably explain the controls for the media player and file browser in the ReadMe.

Okey dokey, here is the My Pictures screen. It looks dead on to me when viewed with my NTSC TV. Everything is in place and visible except part of the myPS2 logo in the bottom-left corner and the minutes of the time in the bottom-right corner are rounded off on my TV. If this looks right to you too, you can examine the mypictures.xml file to see the new positions and sizes of all the screen elements and start applying them to every other page. Now if this still looks way off to you, then I'm afraid it is entirely dependent on one's TV how the program will look. You can change it to make it look right to you, then send it back to me and I'll see if it still works for me.
Included in the rar file is the entire Pal folder. This includes the updated mypictures.xml and a slightly modified main.xml that you don't need to be concerned about. Several of your previous screens had lost the label command for the upper left corner - I put them back in the appropriate xml files and included them as well.
If anyone else who currently has the windows theme can replace their mypictures.xml from the pal folder posted below and tell me how it looks for you on your NTSC TV, it would be appreciated.

good idea; I will add it to the myfiles.xml... also I was thinking we could use the right command as a shortcut on the selection list for mymusic.xml to bring users to the play position automaticlly for if they have many files in one folder and dont want to scroll all the way to the bottom of the folder only to access the audio buttons.
We should probably explain the controls for the media player and file browser in the ReadMe.
I'll add it to the readme.txt :) also I'm going to seperate readme.txt files for the different skins...

heh, well the thing is my tv is also ntsc; the problem you have with the y/x is fundimental for all ntsc telivisions. when you noticed this on your tv set and assumed it was a tv specific problem on your set it wasnt...the reason why tv cards are able to display it properly is because although you can set ntsc/pal output on a tv card it is going to be different then the output on a standard pan screen tv since they are being displayed in a different manner. the main differernce when you switch between ntsc/pal on a tv card is the refresh rate changes from 60hz (ntsc) or 50hz (pal) output and the resolution is slightly changed but it doesnt properly emulate the output you will get on a standard tv and the frame on the pc is adjusted...
I do not have the exact reasons why nobody explained the issue to you before but I can make an educated guess. my guess is that the users probably noticed the issue right away with the config.dat's default x/y postitions but the easy fix would then be to goto setting and change the x/y positions then save... this method will fix the problem and works fine! the problem is when you start adding multiple skins in the selection menu and switch over the other skin, the other skins are going to be designed around the config.dat's default x/y positions hence you eather fix the root of the problem with your skin or everytime you switch over you have to always change the x/y postitons in the setting menu if you wish to use your original skins layout and xml config. before this wasnt really an issue since there were no other skins to select and you could always keep the modified positions for your skin...all skins use the same config.dat file.
my temp positions in the r3 release are not at all perfect, only with using that release you can use the default x/y postions and get a somewhat visible display so for now it works as a temp hack to allow users to switch inbetween skins without having to adjust the x/y positions everytime they switch to the windows skin; the rewrite will fix all of this ;)
technically speaking, I should note that the way the skinning system works your supposed to edit the resolutions & files to eather "pal" or "ntsc" on boot myps2 will detect your system and load the ntsc or pal files as needed...unfortunitly ntba2 released his myps2 default skin only as pal; and your windows skin was designed around this skin without taking this into account. now here was my reasoning behind the linux skin when I began development....first I knew of these two facts and had to make a desision do I create a ntsc format of ntba2's default skin then created both a pal and ntsc skin for the linux skin on top of I would then edit your windows skin and then make a pal version of the skin, or do what I did design a compatible ntsc skin around ntba2's default skin and retain all of the region values the same then move on to repair your skin to match those values...what is the benifit??? well the benifit of doing it this way is first "installation size reduced", "settings standardized for skin switching (no gui x/y adjustments needed)", if by chance users had issue with x/y I figured that all they would have to do is adjust the gui x/y positions and save as defualt and since they are all standardized they could skin switch without any further gui adjustment", & "finally there is an auto region setting in the gui settings so for cosmetic value it would seem proper".

So, did the My Pictures screen look correct or not? When I take a screenshot the image turns out to be 640 x 448, but in the xml files (all of the xml files - my windows and your linux and default) the background image is set to 640 x 512. These are the standard resolutions for NTSC and PAL, respectively, correct? Doesn't that conflict with something? All of the first control tags for the xml files read:
<control>
<description>background image</description>
<type>image</type>
<posX>0</posX>
<posY>0</posY>
<width>640</width>
<height>512</height>
<texture>background.png</texture>
</control>
Now why did these settings have to be changed with the windows theme and not the others? I always knew that the top and bottom got cut off, but when I took a screenshot, the entire screen was visible, so I thought it was just my TV. FYI, I am using a standard TV - I don't have a TV tuner card for my PC, unless the screenshot function of myPS2 is considered to be a tuner card.

your start menu is part of the background the script you posted only changes the resolution of the background image and that is all, since your background image in the windows theme included the start menu and you positioned all of the values to that start menu all of your xml files would have to be overhauled...the screenshot will then capture the whole image where as your tv did not, my tv did not the output was different and that inturn caused systemic problems...ntsc = 640 x 448 pal = 640 x 512....when you change the x/y positions in the settings menu or take a snapshot (downsizes to 448) it moves the whole screen with values and all when you modify xml to match positions you must change each value accordingly.
Also perahaps on pal tv's your skin was fine and that could be another reason why you didnt get many complaints, for me since I have ntsc the method I used will probably display some of the bottom portion under the start menu for pal users in which case just adjust the x/y position in the settings and save...this way even if they switch skins it will still be standardized and the new adjusted default would work...plus I really didnt want to take the time to make a bunch of ntsc version of your skin and the default myps2 skin as this hack is sorta like auto and its a sound method as long as the tone of the background_.png is simular to the main background for any minor x/y adjustments any pal user might make....
well I could'nt seem to get the switch in the ntsc/pal switch in the settings options to work when I did a partial seperation, I'm thinkin maybe there are still bugs to be worked out or the switch has not been fully implimented..

@anyone: I was testing some skin images I made for myPS2, but I can't get anything to display. Even when I choose the default skin from the menu all I get is a black screen. I'm guessing it has to do with the default Skin being PAL (since I have an NTSC console). If not, then maybe it has something to do with my running myPS2 off the HDD. Has anyone else experienced this black screen after applying a skin or even the default skin?

Well this doesn't explain why I'm getting a black screen when selecting the default skin (un-modified). However, I did have another skin in the same location with a different name. I just cloned the default skin, changed the title in the xml file, and replaced one image (the background.png image) with my own background.png (256x192px), and that skin didn't work either (black screen). The clone of the default skin was also in PAL mode, since I haven't gone through the work of making it into an NTSC skin, but even if it was in PAL mode, it still should display something on my NTSC console wouldn't it?
EDIT: This black screen problem could also have something to do with my setup, cause I did delete and re-copy some files (skin and non-skin related) over after installing myPS2. I'm going to format that HDD and transfer myPS2 over to test again, and see if it was just some problems with the HDD reading the files.

I have decided to centralize all of the skins/themes into one post and update and maintain this post as I develop new skins/themes...Please also review the notes near the bottom of the post...
Installation:
copy/replace the entire skin folder that you wish to install under the skins directory within your myps2 installation directory?uLaunchELF works the best for this!
Switch Skins:
enter Settings-Skins-(Choose Skin from the list of skins in the menu); it should take a few
seconds while myps2 parsings the skin on the fly. when the new skin is appied just save settings
if you wish for that skin to be your defualt on boot/reboot :-)

Notes:
- The intention of this release was to take some time to tweak the skins and solve/fix/align skins so that I could focus on new skins (sooner or later when I decide to make a new skin)?the updating process on the mass majority of skins are complete and will only be updated for compatibility with new version of myps2?when the time comes to update for compatibility with a new version of myps2, I will make another full themes pack post/attachment updated accordingly?
- You can switch between skins on the fly in the skins settings menu (read "switching skins" atop the post)...
- If there is a serious problem with a skin I later identify, I'll just post the files that need to be updated and the user can just copy the files to the directory.
- Previews are just that previews, please keep in mind that you will find on your tv set the picture will be much sharper; the images only represent a gereral representation of the acual theme...
- Better video connections = better visual output, I would at a minimum recommend using at least composite cables and highly suggest using s-video or component video?
- Added myps2' memory card icons I decided to put together for those running myps2' from dev1/memory card...
- The archived named "MyPS2 v1.2 (Fixed).rar" is an adjusted version of myps2 v1.2.
ELF ONLY (UNPACKED) - REPLACE ELF - ALL THEMES COMPATIBLE
- Re-Compiled w/various minor adjustments (Thumps)
- BSOD switching skins HDD fixed (Thumps)
- Slim IDE Fix (Hex Edit by Flamingo24)

Hope you and the otherone who created a few skins want´s to help me. ;)
@The moment, the CD is nearly 350-400MB in size (unpacked).

MySkin - Crappy skin for myPS2
I didn't like the default look of myPS2, so I went out and re-did the skin. I based it off the original, and just re-did the graphics. A few hours work here and there, hope you like it :)
You can download it from here: http://www.deviantart.com/view/35359134/
It has an almost complete set of new icons, new background, the dialog box has been tweaked for transparency, as well as new colours and such. It looks somewhat like the XBox Media center, but with my own twists.. anyways, enjoy, and keep an eye out for more from me later.. maybe :p
Comments are appreciated :)
