if you have a modchip in your ps2, and a memorycard with at least 600 kb free space. It's not a problem. I'm running it on my memorycard, you just have to burn a program that can transfer the files from the cd (like myps2). I have a dms4 lite modchip, the only thing I need to do is, burn the files including a edited "system" file. I don't know what kind of file it is, but most of the bootable cd images is using it. In this file you rename the current source file the system file is looking for the myps2.elf file.
It works for me. Try find a bootable cd image of any other file transfering program for ps2.
In other case, if you want, I could give you the system file.

I've used the edited system file and still it just boots to a black screen. Any idea why?
I want to boot from cd that way I can leave it in my ps2, and just turn on the ps2 and it will boot directly without me having to go through any other menus. Right now i'm using ps2menu in that fashion, but this program seems like it is more suitable for me.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

i made a bin/cue file that might work. i have not tested it myself (my ps2 is at a friends house)
please report back ASAP if it works or not.:)

What kind of modchip do you have?

You have a matrix infinity chip, my last ps2 had a matrix infinity chip, and I did'nt need the system file when I burned a elf file on a disc, it boot'ed for it self anyway. How come you can't boot the thingy?

Never newed that you don't have to get a systemfile to launch a elf. I take it that you have to rename it to boot.elf?
But my ps2 just hangs at the bootlogo of sms. (Not the first logo but the second, the one instead of the ps2 logo)
edit: I just tryed to load myPS2 trough uLaunchElf but then I got the "famous" black screen.

it works for me, just open cdgenps2, add the MYPS2.ELF and the system.CNF file contaning this data:
=========================================
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\MYPS2.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = PAL/NTSC
=========================================
Press enter at the end of the last line!!
matrix infinity will be bale to copy the file to your memory card using the matrix memory card manager.

(Sorry for the replicant of my last reply, something happend I don't know why)
If you have matrix infinity and want to launch a elf file from a burned cd, you don't need to rename it, it would boot anyway. The boot.elf your talking about is a directory on your memory card where your suposed to place a elf file of your choice with the name boot.elf, check your manual for more details. This means you have the program on your memcard and while holding a sertain button at bootup on your ps2, the chip will will launch the boot.elf.
On my ps2, I have the myps2 program as boot.elf on my memorycard.

Yeah, I use the boot.elf (and boot2.elf and boot3.elf ;)) to launch my favorite apps. But when I tryed to launch myPS2 I get the famous black screen

I think I know whats wrong. I got the same screen when I renamed the myps2.elf. Don't do that if your booting from the cd. And make sure all the requested files and directory's wanted with the elf file is there. If you want to have the new myps2 version on your memcard as a boot.elf, I sugest that you make a empty document and rename it to myps2.elf and have it in the same boot directory as the renamed myps2 elf. That worked for me.
!wow, so you can have more boot.elf's with the matrix! Nifty! :)

hmm, not sure what u mean actually...
I've just copied MYPS2.ELF to MC0:boot\MPS2.ELF with ExecFTP.
works fine.

Hmmz, I didn't changed anything of myPS2. But I read something that it actually needs the documentation directory for some reason so I guess I try that one out.
BTW, since the new upgrades of last time it is possible to have more boot options;)

I don't know what modchip you have, but my chip needs to have an elf with the name boot.elf in the boot dir to work.. maybe it's only like that with the dms chips, I don't know. I have the new toxic BIOS version aswell.

I have the matrix and if i want to boot an elf with a button like R1,L1 or R2 i need an elf called BOOT.ELF too.
but it just works fine here, am trying things out right now.

I'm using an old school neo4 which boots any cd it sees. I tried booting from the cd and i got a black screen (i burnt all the other directories on the cd as well). I tried the image someone else made and got the same results.
I tried launching from ps2menu from cd as well, and it launched the elf, though it stops at "initializing gamepad". Any idea why?
Thanks

so you don't have the dir's with the skin and language etc?
That shoul'nt work if your talking about the new ps2menu 1.0?!

ps2menu ? errrm, i dont have that, we are talking about MyPS2 right ?
I added USB.IRX from naplink to my MC0:BOOT\
Added MPS2.ELF to MC0:BOOT\
and thats it, i start memory card manager(since i dont need more then 6 apps to play with currently)
then i load MYPS2 and there i go, put in my USB stick play music, copy elfs from here and there.
but sumtimes it freezes up on me, i guess its still a lil buggy lol, but who cares it looks great! those bugs will be gone soon ;)

in theory adding a system.cnf file to the cd should work, but as a few of us who have tried it ourselves, there hasn't been any luck. Those who are suggesting it haven't actually tried it. I tried it and wasted 3 cd's. I have a decent knowledge of the system.cnf files and did all the editing- as well i tried someone's pre-made iso on here. All give the same result: black screen.
Has anyone here successfully booted directly from cd? (and no, i don't mean copied from cd to memory card then booted... i mean direct from cd).

I am tried to make bootable cd for myps2 ver 0.5 and 1.0, but with no success. Only black screen is all i can see. I don't try to load from memory card yet. I think to waste of 1/8 of memory card space is not comfortable for me. :)

I have'nt tried to make a bootable cd with the new myps2, but I made one that did work with 0.5 version, and I used the edited system file in that case.
Gues it works different from chip to chip.

hmm, i dont think thats true, there is really one way to make a system.cnf file.
except for the Version name and PAL/NTSC
================================
BOOT2 = cdrom0:\MYPS2.ELF;1
VER = 1.00
VMODE = PAL/NTSC
================================
in CDGENPS2, set the LBA of the SYSTEM.CNF file fixed to 12231, then add the ELF then the folders.

If you get blackscreen like me when starting from MC just wait a few seconds and then you will have success. Don't know why but it takes a very long time to load. switched of several times, because of blackscreen but then i went to pc, left blackscreen alone, come back and myps2 was loaded. Anyway doesn't support USB Stick and doesn't support my HDD in V12. :banghead:

Well, I've waited like 10 min and the screen still kept black. Maybe cause I put all the files and directory's not in the root of the memorycard, but in a new folder called myPS2

As long as you have the dir's with the myps2.elf file there should'nt be a problem.
About the system file, I have never used the cdgen program. I just put the edited system file with the elf file in nero and burn like normal. It works for me.

I tried to load from memory card and it's ok, working now. But only if you copy all dirs with myps2.elf (see readme). I am used the uLaunchelf for booting. But no success to loading from cd. Also few words about picture viewer - it too pixelated, and slow in browsing.

you guys who have the black screen while running from cd, is it the same thing when you use the last version, 0.5 from cd?
BigMichiel
01-26-2006, 04:04 PM
well, actually. Before I got the black screen, I can see that myPS2 is checking some stuff, and he give's everything a green ok but not the last (or the one before the last) it says something in red. But he immediatly switches to the black screen. No matter how long I wait, it stayes. black.
I tryed to load this from mc.
Never tryed 0.5

When I run myps2 v 1.0 it shows a text in red aswell. For me it is the HDD compability, or something with HDD anyway. But thats becourse I do'nt have an HDD atached to my ps2.
But it's strange about your black screen afterwards. I remember when I did'nt have the dir's that come with the release in place, the loading screen did'nt check anything at all with text. And after that I got a black screen.
As I run it now without any problems, it checks all the things like normal, the screen turns black, and the program show's up after 2-3 seconds.
But you realy should tryout the last version and see if the problem is with this new version or not.

well, now I think of it. I have installed Linux at the moment. Maybe that causing the trouble with the hdd? I'll try to format the hdd and then install myPS2 again. Maybe that works
