Dear community,

I have been searching the posts for days now without luck. I am trying to connect my PC to the PS2 in order to copy my saved games on MC to PC.

I heard that this could be easily done by "just" installing LaunchELF and ExecFTP but there is no real technical documentation on how to do it. The documentation for the unofficial release reads: "just start launchELF from cd". What kind of document is that?
Am I missing something here??

Then there is a series of other programs in ELF format but they should be built into an ISO image. I tried CDGENPS2 ver 3.0 but it just generated a few coasters. I won't go deeper into that little story...

What I need is not a specific guide or anything, just some pointers to where I can find the information. I have read a lot of answers like: "use the search button" or "google around..." or even worse "there are guides for that everywhere".
I am willing to do the work, but believe me, when what you are looking for is hidden in the middle of 14 page long post in a jungle of 14 year olds yelling LoL and bump and all that, it kinda gets you sick.
I just would like to know what to look for, not more.

My PS2:
-Slim version 75004
-Original 8MB Sony Memory Card
-Modded with Crystal Chip 1.1 and updated with latest "hacked" firmware.
-Installed BM on MC (it reads ver. 1.8, though it should be 1.9)
-Network is on-board on this model
-Unit is connected to home router

My questions would be:
-How do people with modded units usually get their ELFs running?
-How are the ELFs normally installed on the MC? (I know I don't need an exploit since I have a modded console, right?)
-Installing apps through the BM does not work since it does not read the contents of the CDs I feed it (probably because I have to create a specific kind of CD for it to read, right?)
-Is it normal that the BM says ver. 1.8 after updating it to 1.9??

Any ideas and pointers would be greatly appreciated!

thank you in advance,

Nek.

did you download bootmanager megapack, if not download that and it has all the elfs on it, you just burn the whole megapack to cd and it will load bottmanager on to MC, then start bootmanager and goto install applications, choose which elf you want to install like execftp and press x it will install it now go back to the first bootmanager screen and goto run application and choose the elf and it will run.
if you dont know where to get the megapack, try here

Thank you very much.

I actually did try out with I megapack I downloaded. I will download and burn the one from your link to see what happens. I will then post the results here again.

Ok, I tried the file you posted. It installed a bootmanager that replaced my old one (the new one looked kind of old though). I then went to "install applications" and chose a file from the list and pressed "X" (it seemed to do something and then said "done!"). Unfortunately no application was there to be seen in the run list. I even tried reformatting the MC and then reinstalling, but still no luck. :(

I also tried installing the BM-Megapack 2.2 but this time I couldn't even see anything in the installable apps list!! WTF?

Nothing seems to work at all. I also tried installed QTuner but it just crashes every time I hit play! This sucks.

Anyway, I would like to hear about the other method you haven't told me about.

Thanks,

Nek

use my boot cd, read the readme and follow the instructions, just add whatever other elfs you want and then burn to cd run the cd and follow my word document instuctions
cheers
I couldnt add all the other elfs as it would have been too big so just take the elfs out of bootmanager and pit them in this folder and burn,

Hello dungbeetle46!!

the CD you made works flawlessly and I can now load any programs I want from it. Thank you!!

I still wonder why my custom made boot-cd's don't work. I will look into it later and describe my adventures here.

Thanks again,

Nek

Hi Guys..
about 20 coasters later, I think i need help ;)
I have a modded PS2 which loads backups for ps1 and ps2 just fine. In addition, i installed an iso for imbNES and it works just great. However, I have not been able to get ulaunchElf, psms (sms emulator) and various other utilities working. I tried dung's boot cd here and it also did not work. without exception, all of these disks, when inserted, raises the dreaded 'red' 'please insert a playstation 1 or 2 disc' screen.

I am using k3b (linux, debian) to burn these disks. I Have tried every imaginable configuration setting.. Including, as suggested in many places, disabling joilet and rockridge extensions, setting mode 2 CD (or burning to dvd), iso level 1, and disabling all the naming extensions.

Any ideas here? I havnt been able to get anything out of any other linux cd writing program. the imbNES which i burned, and worked, generated a .bin/.cue combo from a utilitie, so i'm guessing it is k3b. (i burned the imbnes bin with cdrdao). Could somone make an iso or .bin/.cue of the above dung's boot cd to help me test if it is indeed my burning software?

If it is, i'll install nero/something else on my windows box (no burner), and drop the images over to this machine..

Help! (thanks)

I would say the problem is definately in your burning software, I havent used linux so not sure what to suggest, will burnatonce work with linux, if so I can walk you through that

Burnatonce is a windows front end. however, i DO have cdrdao (i use it to burn the cue/bin files, incidently..), and so if burnatonce gives you the command line that it sends to cdrdao, that would be extremely helpful.

I will try your icepack, but i used all of my blank cdr's yesterday.. Gonna have a shower and run pick some up, give it a try.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Your image works like a charm.. though i'm a bit dissapointed to see that the modchip doesnt have boot-from-MC mode. Oh well.

I'll play around with various CD settings/programs, and if i get it to work, I'll post the results here for anyone else who happens by..

Hey all,
I just used Nero to make an iso cd image, and tossed it across the network to my linux machine with the burner. Works like a charm. Thanks for the help
