I'm at section 2.4 in the SMS user walkthrough, and it mentions the file "mc0/SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT". I don't understand if I'm supposed to have created that file or find it somewhere. I see the mc:/SMS/SMS.cfg, but not the other. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.

Someone else has reported this confusion today as well. I'm currently updating the manual to clarify this.

In short: You only need to create mc0:/SYS-CONF/IPCONFIG.DAT if you want to use SMS in network mode. It is not required to make SMS run, only to enable network support. The file defines the <ip> <subnet_mask> <default_gateway> for the PS2, and can be created in notepad then copied via FTP.

Don't edit SMS.cfg. This is a binary file is written by SMS when it stores the other config settings.

What is your problem ?

Having SMS go to its normal SMS screen is not an error, under any circumstances...
Yet you report it as if it was some terrible fault, which I am unable to understand.

Possibly what you really meant is that it is FMCB (or whatever boot method you use) that somehow insists on launching SMS when what you really want to do is to boot a normal game disc. But if that is what you mmeant, then SMS itself is not directly involved in your problem. It has not yet been started when the choice is made whether to boot a disc in tray or to boot a homebrew program. And if the priority of this choice is wrong, according to your preferences, then it is because you have not configured it correctly.

Please clarify what it really is that you are trying to do, and why you consider it wrong for SMS to go to its normal screen (the only thing it is designed to do on startup), and then we can better consider what your problem is and how to help you solve it.
