Starting launchelf from mc

How do you directly boot launchelf from the mc?
The only way I can get launchelf to boot is by using a cd.

I've gotten everything copied onto the mc.
boot.elf is in mc0:/boot/boot.elf
launchelf.cnf is in mc0:/sys-conf/

I'm using an old messiah modchip. I've been looking around and the only way to boot it directly from the mc is by using Dev mode 1. Which honestly, I have no idea what that means. Lol.

I'd appreciate any help. :)

dev 1 means the chip has the ability to boot directly from memory card which your chip doesnt support, you have to boot with cd.
chips like infinity
crystal
h20
etc have dev 1 mode
by holding a certain button at startup it tells the chip to boot from mc but only if chip supports it
