My favorite is plain Arial or Arial Bold.

I agree with emcepl here, Arial is very nice and simple.
Tahoma or Verdana fonts are also nice, but I think they are (c) of Microsoft... well, as long as you have an original Windows there should be no problem :P

Well, as you don't know a fully customizable font is...will be released, so that will include the use of any font and color for it with the only limitation in size (32*32) pixels. With the font tool, will be very easy to make the set you may want for browser and subtitle to be displayed as wish.
So, the idea of this thread is to suggest fonts to be used, then no one can complain about "I don't like the font", any font could be applied to SMS from "arial" to "walt disney", this one looks better or that one is worse... is the reason for this thread, also this would be used as "font bank"...:D
The tool uses fonts installed in /Windows/fonts/ so in ttf format would be great, there are five groups for different languages to make them easy and will use 40-50K in your MC

What tool?
40-50kB - isn't that too much? Maybe you could just limit it to 1 language. I really doubt that anyone will use different translation than the native one (e.g. I'm using only ISO 8859-2).

How about synchronization between video and subtitles ? Will it be customizable in SMS. And how about manual loading srt which name differ from video file.
@Voldemar_u2: it can be made customizable (pretty easy to do - just add/substact timeshift value to every subtitle. Well, most complicated part is GUI implementation for it). I'll let the actual implementation to someone else. Same for "manual loading srt which name differ from video file". I'm really sorry, but this is not interesting for me to implement ;) (at the moment there're only 2 pad buttons left free of actions during playback - "R2" and "L2". All others are busy)...

L2 - SUB Delay -0.5 second
R2 - SUB Delay +0.5 second
L2 | R2 - Reset Delay
the delay can be set into a config file. perhaps the format could be
[sub filename] [space] [sub delay] [LF]
problem solved

REALLY, Why not ?
...it's much faster for me to make Win32/linux program to adjust delay directly in sub/srt file rather fiddling with "configuration" files for subtitles :). Anyway, the idea is good, I agree, but it will lead to creation of display of that delay on screen during movie playback, which, in turn, requires programming directly on PS2 which available for me only for a few hours in the evening after work. It's not so hard to implement that. And I would really really like that someone else will take care about it. Sorry ;)...
P.S. Moreover I never use subtitles with .avi files and I don't have any in my movie collection, so I have to search for them first which is quite boring and, probably, also time consuming.

I am agree that not much people whatch movies with subtitles. As opposite for me, i am only use ps2 for anime fansubs with original jap and srt. and it is rare but may happend that subs not syncro whith avi. May be it easy to implement simple syncronization without any "configurations" and GUI, to do it on the fly and reset delay after switching between movies or if exit to browser. This would be little but useful feature (like in JetAudio).
uff, do you undestand my horrible english ?
...you can write in Russian (or Ukrainian) if you want :). OK, I'll implement adjustment without any display indication. I think for that indication there must be one big function that will display everything (current time, audio language - whatever) and if nobody will want to implement it then (maybe next year) I'll do it myself, OK?...

Related to font, I think I found "Da Font" ;) "Helvetica Rounded Bold", It displays as DVD movie built in font, and looks very proffesional. Unfortunately, only have it for WinLatin1...so if someone else can contribute with another pack (cyrillic or greek) would be great, Thank you ;)

Aerial is fine with me too

Well, there will be one default, same as rev8 and if a custom one is present in MC0:/SMS then custom is loaded, and this custom font (max 32*32 pixels)
