is it possible to update the firmware using ps2link? I have 2 ps2's and one has a broken cdrom drive. Can I upgrade the firmware by using ps2link or somethign simmilar? Originaly I upgraded it in a different ps2 then swapped it in, but this is a pain.

Hi,

that would be interesting, because I don´t want to spoil a CD-R for upgrading everytime.

Well I found my answer, you can! from the readme file included with the firmware: After running the "makeit.bat" file, you can simply run "BOOT.ELF"(inside the "BOOT" directory) with naplink/ps2link
and follow the steps outlined above.

I have tried that with PS2Link and it just doesnt work. Someone know a true working way of upgrading the CC's FW over a network, or from the memory card?

I tried putting the R19 hacked FW on a USB stick and launching it with uLaunchELF but that failed as well. Sure would be nice to know how to do this on consoles that have poor lasers.

This goes back to the the problem with the IRX files inside of the last two versions of BM. The files conflict with the ones that ps2link has. For now the only way you can do this is to make a ps2link emergency disc. Rename ps2link.elf to PS2.ELF and make a proper SYSTEM.CNF.

Boot the ps2 with CC with no memory card in slot 1. Your ps2 should launch ps2link. Shove in the memory card and open whatever PC side client you want. Run \fw\FILES\BOOT\BOOT.ELF and run the upgrade. It should work this way but I've never tried it with release 19.

Thanks for the reply Agent, also thanks for the help with ULE earlier :D

I understand what your saying here, however it would be nice to be able to flash the chip with out the use of the laser as many time people just want to be able to launch HDL from with in BM and not always do they have a working laser or one that is good enough to read recordable media anyway.

Does naplink allow you to send the BOOT.ELF over with out crashing? I dont have the pl2301 cable to use with naplink.

What is the point of modded a PS2 with a CC1.1 if it cannot read any media? Can't they just have someone softmod there PS2 rather than spending money on a modchip?

LOL! Well if you think about it .... if you have a PS2 with a poor laser then the softmod (which is lame compared to a quality dev1/2 mod) wont work for you either as you need a PS1 disc to trigger the exploit..... sooooo with a little thinking ...hmmmm the exploit wont work either if your laser aint working.

So a good alternative is a dev1/2 chip that can launch your apps (like HDL or ULE) from the memcard/hdd with out the need for a trigger disc :chinscrat hmmmm genius aint it bacon.

Hahaa ah yeah Sped it is but I would just sell that PS2 and get a new one with a modchip! i mean you can sell a PS2 for eh maybe 100$ then get a premod for about 150$ but hey it is a good idea but I think it is a waste but very smart and dumb of me

A PS2 with a dead lazer wont go for much more then $20-$30 if your lucky. And as you know a pre-mod for $150 isnt to likely either. Also it wont be long until the day when you wont be able to find "new" ps2's let alone working lasers to replace them with so why not think ahead of the game now. I would call that very smart

Also this post was not addressed to what "you" might think is a good idea or not. It was to address a specific situation that I would like to have addressed. So your buying a new console "idea" is not specific to the topic to begin with

I've gotten about 2-3 offers of 150$ for a premod w/ DMS4 Pro and I think a CC1.1 would be like 120$! I ended up getting a DMS4 Pro+Network Adapter+80GB HD=175$ total got 2 offers of that! Anyone needs a premod I can get a good deal!

There are two files needed to flash the crystal chip over inlink, one is "flasher.elf" and the other is "FIRMWARE.CCI"; the second one is dependant on whichever firmware version you want. If you have a desired firmware version on CD, get the FWARExx.CCI out of it that represents your crystal chip version (xx = 10 for 1.0, 11 for 1.1, 20 for 2.0), plunk it in a folder with flasher.elf, rename it to FIRMWARE.CCI, run that .elf with inlink and you can flash the chip.

http://d.turboupload.com/d/428060/flasher.elf.html for the flasher.
