View Full Version : PS2 takes long time to recognize disc?

My brother's PS2 is having a strange problem. It takes a long time (2 minutes or so) to recognize a disc after it has been inserted. During this time I usually don't hear much clicking/seeking sort of noise, but I haven't done it with the system open to get a closer look. This occurs on pretty much any medium; we've tried CDDA, PSX CD, PS2 CD, PS2 DVD, and DVD-Video, and the behavior seems to be identical on all. Once the disc is recognized, it operates just fine. There is no mod installed, and I've already tried cleaning the lens. Does anyone know what could cause this (I'm thinking that the focus actuator gets stuck during initial calibration but I'm not as much of an expert as I'd like) and/or how fixable it is?

clean the laser lense with a q-tip and alcohol.

I've already done so. There was no change.

..check the coil resistance in the laser ...if its 5 ohms or over on both coils ..the laser is fine ..and needs adjustment ...was it dropped ????
