View Full Version : What causes the disk tray to shoot out crazy fast and blow the BA chip?

I put a modded machine together that booted to the spinning electrons when tested without the disk drive, but as soon as the machine was assembled fully, it did that. Is it from an ill-fitting ribbon cable? The disk drive motor started emitting a tiny swirl of smoke too, so is that fried?

Feed back circuit.. Did you replace the ba chip? if you did you probably lifted a pad that connects to a via going through the board, it isn't visible with the chip in.

It was the motherboard's original BA chip, there's a replacement that I am about to install, but once it's in, will the thing fry again after the drive is hooked up?

Well the chip was re-installed, same thing happened to one disc drive and another one, but each time the console was turned off a split second after noticing the rapid fire eject. It looks like the disc tray eject motor is getting too much power? I am kind of lost on this one. All fuses measure OK.
I had this problem on a v7 . The problem was that I had pinched the eject ribbon cable when I put the top of the case back on. You could hardly see the damage but it must have been shorting out somewhere. I replaced it and all was well. Cheers
