Hi!
I just get an Scph10000 ps2. But when i try to play dvds movies, it says "dvd is not setup" or something like that.
I have not the utility disc, so i get a backup, but the dvd drivers dont install. Also try with the update disc from the remote control, but i get black screen.
Is There any chance that somebody can send me the drivers ?
Just the files, so i uploads them to the memcard through ps2menu.
Thanks in advance

Well my friend you're with a problem because of all discs made by Sony, the ones that install stuff to memory cards (the so called "Utility Discs") are the most protected ones. They have paranoid protection in them to a point the .ELF file that boots the disc is encrypted with "Magic Gate" so people can't see what the PS2 is doing when installing drivers on the memory card.
Btw this is why you can't use a USA HDD utility disc on a PAL PS2...
Unfortunately during the drivers install the Mechacon keeps checking the Disc-ID of the utility disc, which means you cannot use a copied disc to perform the install. I have a disc that install the DVD drivers 2.14 for japanese PS2s but it happens to be my original PSBBN 2.0 install disc.
You can look for someone who own a japanese PS2 HDD set and use his install disc to install your drivers.
Peace bro.

So I also have a jap PS2 with no DVD player software. Is installing the drivers from an original Utility Disc the only option? Is it possible to use a burned copy w/ patched disk ID? Any other methods possible with a chipped system?

well people original installing DVD`s is not the only option i have the DVD-Player version 2.10 (disc) scratched so i go and searched and wow a thin i found guess what DVD player version 3.02. Its install is as simply copin it ps2menu or via FTP, just copying it to a mem card specific folder and thats it DVD player 3.02 on PS2, its 2MB though. I have done it and it worked. I think that this version only has the improvement for the ON/OFF capable remote but i dont know if this features works with those remotes when used in conjuction with the IR receiver on previous ps2 models (V1-V8), but anyway p.m me if you want the DVD Player 3.02. ill be glad to send them to you.

If show the DVD driver version number at the version screen is working, then it works.
If the Magic Gate check fail, the PS2 will revert to the internal DVD driver and you will think it worked.
If you press select while the DVD is running you will notice that the DVD options are still the same old as ever. On the driver 3.xx the icons were re-drawn so you get the same appearance as a 50k or slim PS2 DVD player if you have the updated driver running. Copying DVD driver files from another memory card (or from the internet) won't work because of the protection SONY put in them... Period.
You're free to try it on a machine which has NO DVD PLAYER buit in, like a 10k or 15k.

When i first downloaded them i dont think it will work either for exactly the same reason you mention, magicgate, and i already know what you have said that these files were protected and no copy ca be done, but thats valid only for ps2 memcard to hdd mem card copy. Using the right tools, thanks ps2-scene for that, you can copy this files and backup them on the PC trough FTP, or USB or whicever method you like.
In fact i got this drivers from a guy that copy them this way: (all credit to him, sorry i forgot who is this guy or the web i downloaded this)
HE uses an app lets say Ulaunchelf and tried to copy the entire folder on the memcard (for USA consoles it is BAEXEC-DVDPLAYER), using ftp to the PC, and bam it didnt work but he didn gave up so he used his brain and luck, and he began to copy the files in the folder one by one, and bum it worked he got the files on the PC. Then to make them work on another mem card you just have to create a new folder on the mem card called BAEXEC-DVDPLAYER (for Usa consoles) and copy the files there, and thats it PS2 DVD player updated and without Magicgate copy coprection.
Well i installed them on my mem card and i go to the ps2 version screen and it says PS2 DVD driver 3.02, default driver in my console is 2.10u, but the bad part of this is that my ps2 laser cant read dvd anymore so i havent been able to check the driver differences with a DVD movie, but for me if it appears at the version screen as 3.02 when the mem card is in the ps2 and as 2.10 when is not, for me this drivers are working OK.
I will not post them as i dont know if doing so would be illegal or against the forum rules so if anyone wants them i can give it to you via p.m
if youre curious this are the PS2. DVD PLayer files:
dvdplayer.dmy
dvdplayer.elf
dvdplayer.ico
dvdplayer.id
dvdplayer.irx
dvdplayer-e.ver
dvdplayer-j.ver
icon.sys
Notice these files:
dvdplayer-e.ver
dvdplayer-j.ver
thats why i think it can work on any region ps2 just to put them on the rigth folder name, maybe
BAEXEC-DVDPLAYER for USA (well thats for sure as i have test it:) )
BEEXEC-DVDPLAYER for Europe (based on BESLES for games)
BIEXEC-DVD PLAYER for Japan (the same as above)
:chinscrat
so anyone youre free to ask me for the drivers, and if you jap PAL or JAP NTSC consoles please gice it a try..

It works if you can watch a DVD using the DVD driver from the memory card. I did exactly what you said, with the following procedure:
1- With a PS2 with no modchip or a disabled modchip I installed DVD driver from HDD utility disc.
2- Copied to other memory card using uLAUNCHELF. Tried the second copy on the other MC in the same playstation.
What happened was I got the version number changed but in the exact moment I put the DVD video disc in the PS2 it tried to read the movie then did fall back to the browser.
I then deleted the DVD driver from the MC which I had originally installed the driver and copied over the copy I just put on the other MC. (I basically deleted the driver which the utility disc installed and restored it from the backup I just made)
When I put the DVD movie it played fine using the DVD driver 3.01 (edit 3.02U, lol)
By this I just mean the files are encrypted using the serial number of the given memory card flash memory which makes the files not useful if moved to another memory card. I'm not saying you cannot backup them. Just that you need my MEMORY CARD for it to work if I send you my already installed DVD driver.
It will show in the browser as updated but won't boot for sure if it's not on the memory card it's supposed to be. The DVD driver install from disc takes 5 minutes because it's pretty much decrypted from the disc, keyed with the memory card then re-encrypted. Pics follow :

JAJAJA 2008 and now im bringing back to life this thread!!
After all i was wrong, l_oliveira youre right, i have test it on another PS2 an it indeed didnt load the movies just changes the version on the system information screen... Thanks for the testing
I have an idea that may work, could you help me test it? thats because at this time i olny have my PS2 that cant read DVD's, so i wont be able to test my idea.
Now that we have methods to boot a custom code from memory card (FMCB) could them be used to sign the 3.02U or other DVD players update to our own memory cards?
Can the tools used to sign FMCB be used to sign the DVD player? Is that posible? and would it affect FMCB in anyway as making it to not work cause the ps2 have to load the DVDUpdate?

Thanks to the research made for the development of FMCB the signing mechanism is currently known.
The encrypted file on the DVD driver disc is read from a packed file to the PS2 memory then it's partially decrypted for the retrieval of it's internal header.
It's header contains a "disc key" which matches the ID of the DVD remote disc.
If the disc is copied, the PS2 will be unable to decrypt the DVD driver on disc.
The encrypted file is decoded by the DVD drive CPU and it need the SONY data on the original disc to open the file (that's why copies of the DVD driver disc don't work)
With the decrypted DVD driver file, the PS2 sends it's header to the DVD drive main chip together with the Serial number ID of the memory card. That will create a signature data equal to the "MCID.bin" we get for FMCB. At this phase the DVD disc is checked as original once again. (This make swapping impossible)
That "MCID.bin" is merged with the original file, replacing it's signature (which was for the DVD Driver install disc) to bind it with the memory card. Copied to the memory card.
This is what the Ps2 do when it install the DVD driver with a original DVD Driver disc.
The DEVs used a IRX file (secrman.irx) from the DVD Utility disc to sign the elfs for their own memory cards.
And guess what ? The secrman file on the DVD Utility disc was encrypted too. This is a bit why it took eight years for the clever hackers figure out how to perform this stuff.

So, for what you say, replacing the signature of the file is possible right?
We just need the mcid.bin, dvdplayer files and an hex editor.

No, you cannot "resign" a already "signed for memory card" file.
That's why we extract a file from the PS2 ROM (it uses a "DISC" signature) and there is two types of "DISC" signatures: Bound to disc ID and not bound to disc ID.
The purpose of the "not bound DISC signature" file is allow for encryption on ROM or Hard Disk Drive. It's also the encryption type used on the main elf of the utility discs, which cause the disc to be Magic Gate region specific, thus causing , for example the JP utility discs to not work on asian PS2s.
The bound type will need also the DISC ID to decrypt which makes it even harder to sign the DVD drivers. This is why one cannot install DVD Drivers from copied DVD Driver discs even with modchips disabled and performing swaps.

Thanks for the explanation on how does the signing works!
So its impossible to resign the DVD player because it have been already signed for an specific memory card ! OK roger that! Thats for the DVD player installed from the DVD utility disc.
But if we extract a DVD player from the ROM of an updated ps2 (v9-v16)? wont it be possible to use it to upgrade an old ps2? v1-v8? just like with the 75k dvd elf that its used on FMCB?
couldnt i extract the player of a lets say v10, and used it to upgrade my v6? (Not so usefull as i understand that dvd player 3.02 its the same as 2.10 but with updated icons, but it will be for people with older DVD player software)

So you can't decryt the dvdplayer.elf with HDProjectx if you installed it with an official disc then re-sign it with any bittable.bin and mcid.bin made with version-check-dvdelf-dwnload.elf

Isn't it possible to inject the discid from the original disk to a dvd drivers iso? The same way to make DNAS online games work from backups.

Interesting. I have always wondered because not throw more updates sony of the dvd player in europe.
Above all in order to use the reset button an the eject button on my v3 pal :).
I'ts possible implement it with FMBC?

Isn't it possible to inject the discid from the original disk to a dvd drivers iso? The same way to make DNAS online games work from backups.
It's not possible because the encrypted file (K-ELF) get decrypted by the mechanics controller processor (DVD drive CPU) and for decrypting it, the "mechacon" needs the file key, which could be either a fixed type key (generic DISC type, the kind used by the DVD player in the PS2 ROM), Disc specific keys (the one used on the DVD Player install files, btw the DVD udater install fails on machines with modchip because the disc fails on getting the file keys if a modchip is on the mechacon bus) or memory card encryption.
So basically, while on DNAS games the program need to obtain the disc ID and then transmit through the internet, on DVD update discs it's used internally by the DVD drive to decrypt the files. That's why this is nothing like DNAS patching. You can fake DNAS IDs because you can "inject" some code to skip the DISC ID check and then put some fixed ID on it's place. In this case the hardware will be unable to retrieve the key needed to decrypt a file.
You see ... If Sony really wanted to screw the modchips they really could do so. It's just that they didn't want to.
