i am going to resurrect this thread

having a list of cd based ps2 games is REAL nice, but it is a real pain to compile. lots of people prob know this but, if there is a game thats not on the list that you still want to check, you can goto www.ps2covers.com, find the game, and look at the back cover. it will either have the "compact disc" or "dvd rom" logo. :)

hmm! I didnt know that ICO was just a itty bitty CDR game! a great list. BUMP!

You guys should just compile a list of ps2 cd based games so it isn't that big of a list, and anything that's not on the list people know it's on DVD. Pretty simple and easy solution to the problem, unless they'd want to know how big the TOC was or something.

The back cover thing is nice, but it doesn't tell you all of the information that I'd really like to include....like the Dual Shock 2 requirement and stuff like that. It really annoys me to try to play a two player game, and not know that it requires a DS2 to play (I only have one right now). Other features like online support and how many players is usually on the back of the cover, but why not include it in the list, y'know? Anyway, I sorta get the feeling that this is going to be a long process...mostly because no one is sending the e-mails along, and I just started a new job, so I don't have the time to research like I could have when I offered to do the list.
I'm not giving up, just making a plea for more support. Send me your lists!

i have heard that sometimes games that are released on CDs for NTSC are released as DVDs for PAL (even though its the same game and the data can fit on a CD.) dont ask me why!

hmmm... that should be true since i have the pal version of Ico, (cappy is right though, i live in the US, but don't ask me why i have the pal version). But i stand corrected for the NTSC Ico being a cdrom. I apologize for my quick judgement. :arg:

I'm also curious of why some NTSC versions of games are cd roms instead of the DVDrom like the pal region game?

ThAD0oD

its not cost efficient. :) NTSC people are business men....

pal developers put them on DVDroms just to piss off the pal hackers :) there are dvds with the size-use of around 500mb.....

NTSC people know it will be cracked/hacked, so they dont even bother.

Make note that when a DVD game can fit onto a CD-R, the DVD/CD check has to be hacked by someone who knows what they're doing. Otherwise, the PS2 wont boot the game since it thinks there should be a DVD in the tray - rather than a CD.

I live in Europe and much NTSC CD Games are DVD games in Europe. Like: Virtua Fighter 4, The Thing, Maximo, Ico, Dark Summit. I think there are two reasons for this:1 Games like Maximo are MultiLanguage in Europe and so it takes a lot more disc space.2: They put in on a dvd so that its harder to copy the game.

I personally own Ninja Assault and Time Crisis II and they are both on CDs. As for Vampire Night, I don't actually own this but I looked on-line and it said "CD-based" so I assumed all gun games were.
