Hi,

I got someone professional to chip my PS2 2 weeks ago. He put a Matrix chip with a v1.38 BIOS.

It was working fine, playing all the backups I tried on it until I tried my FIFA 2005. It didn't work, showing me the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" red screen.

I assumed that it was because it needed the latest BIOS so I downloaded v1.54, I installed as per the instructions and it seemed to have worked.

I proceeded to put FIFA 2005 into the drive and it showed the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" screen again. Perplexed, I thought I would just try another backup but still no luck the same screen showed up. This was a game that was previously working when I was using V1.38 BIOS.

It now does this for every PS2 game backup I try.
Original games still work fine however so I'm pretty sure the laser is OK.

One other thing I have noticed is that if I switch the PS2 off at the switch at the back and then switch it back on again, a Matrix splash screen (with an upside-down 'i') appears and doesn't do anything - it won't go away until I press the reset button (and then it's back to the "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" message again).

I since tried re-flashing with a copy of the 1.38 BIOS that I downloaded from infinitymod.com but the same "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 disk" message comes up again even with just that.

Any idea how I can get it working again?

i think your modder has put in a cheap clone chip...
because the 1.54 has anticlone code in it. u realy could check with your modder or open it yourself. take a picture and post it here. or compere to pictures of real MI chip.

since it had the 1.38 infinity firmware and you upgraded it to the 1.54 firmware and now it doesn't work, i would have to say the chip you have is a fake matrix infinity

How cheap are these clone / fake chips?

It came with a 12 month warranty and he charged me £50 (about $80 US) to install and told me I was getting a Matrix Infinity so I thought it wasn't too bad a deal but when I go back there I will give him a piece of my mind.

Does anyone know how much these fake chips are compared to a real Matrix?
