Hi,
i'm using an unmodded PS2 with HDLoader. Is it possible to convert the sms.elf to a PS2 iso, so it will be loaded directly from HDLoader ? If so, will it be possible to read CD, DVD with DIVX or to use USB Mass storage in addition to the HDD inside the PS2 ?
Thanks for your answers !

Unfortunately not. You must wait for WinHIIP with non-HDL partition support.

I think you can, I test that sometime ago and should work, the limitation will be of course that you won't read movies stored in that ISO, only the SYSTEM.CNF and SMS.ELF, besides that you waste 128megs for a 300k app.
Test it anyway and tell us about results... :banghead:

Oh... I misunderstood you. I thought that you want to add a movie to that image and play it from HDL.

I did it and it does work, make the iso with cdgenps2 and transfer the ISO with PS2Dumb and it works, yes it does take 128megs for a 300k app.. no idea why.. but it works..

I said that before... ;) the reason is that HDL need to handle 128 megs partitions, so every iso you intall will take that size rounded UP to 128megs multiple...

OK, i've been using this method for a few months with 1.4 rev 7. Then i decided to watch a movie with subtitles, so i erased the SMS iso and created a new one the same way i did before, only with 1.5 rev 3....
The problem is that now it absolutely will not load thru hdloader. As soon as i click on it, all i get is a black screen.
I created the iso with ps2gen, with a cnf directed at SMS.ELF, and i renamed the file to SMS.ELF, loaded it onto the hard drive using WinHIIIP 1.7.5. and attempted to boot thru hdloader v7c
Even the older iso doesn't work now... so i'm completely lost, but the hard drive works fine for games and anything else.

Could u have forgotten to set the moldes in HDLoader this time (that is if any are necessary, of course)?

as a tipp, try to search for tutorials about getting the exploit to your ps2 with hdloader, much easier then.

yeah, if you have <v12 ps2, just set up the exploit.. otherwise, i dont see why sms wont load if you run it through hdloader if you do it properly

or maybe it as not deleted the partition properly and left a ghost partition when you first deleted it, try using hdd utility 1.1 to check it and delete it :)
