you either need rosin cored solder which has flux in the solder or you need flux to put on the board before soldering, most points on the board will need to be scratched to remove the coating that is placed over the top until they are shiny.

Hi Danne!
I order all my stuff from www.elfa.se
You need FLUX, and it sticks like superb if u use it.
It cost about 150 skr for 3 ml flux. I also use some very expensive wire from www.elfa.se called AWG30 Kynar wire, cost about 100skr for 15 meters.
Let me check if i find product numbers. ill be back.

hows that, not real good with my swedish

HEHE. This is what i buy at elfa.se
Product number for Flux: 8298288
Wire:5524491
The flux isnt listed in the online catalog, but its "no-clean" so u dont need to clean up afterwards. I was gonna buy this rosin shit all ppl recommend (and they have that too) but when i told the guys what i was gonna use it for, they recommended this instead.
One bottle last for maybe 50 consoles.
I use it on xbox, ps2 and gamecube and never had any problems.

Ok thanks Espen but I already bought that rosin thing(I think) from a modchipstore along with wire, it was what they used so I guess it's good, or at least I hope so:)
Now another question...I wanna do a highway install and glue the wires to the mobo, but what kind of glue should I use? thanks

super glue is fine
it doesnt leave too much mess if you make a mistake and it looks quite neat
you just use a small blob of glue on one wire and then work out from that ;)

Danny

I use superglue to put the cables together like
http://www.spillchip.com/v12.jpg
This is my first attempt with superglue though.
When im done with installation i usually use a glue gun that has some silicon kinda glue to isolate points. This glue is easy to remove as it is in silicon shape.

To put the wires together? yes.
But you dont use superglue to solder. That dont work.

Now another q.
Can I use any thick wire for 3.5V and GND or is it a special one?

I use AWG22 wire. I used AWG20 before, but its way to thick.
What you also can do if you dont have a thick wire, you can take the thin wire and connect 2-3 cables at same time. Ive seen people do that aswell.

Hmmm my ps2 doesn't seem to turn on when I press the reset button, but if i press the eject button it turns on... afterwards, if i press the reset button it resets... just when its on stanby mode (red dot at the reset button) it doesn't turn in if I press reset...
awww crap... lets see, theres this big green board that has the power cables plugged into it and you also have to plug this big board into the main motherboard is... well it seems like when I turned on the power, some sparks flew.... theres this cylinder looking like lightbulb that says 125V on it and it looks pretty busted... and my ps2 doesn't start at all now XD... anyone know whats wrong?

no need to clean up and is magic for small points like bios and the b point on final ice :)
Solder: Cobarcore
Diameter 0.3
Flux % 0.7
Wire: Habia Cable isotec.
dont know where you can buy this.. get it from a friend that works at Ericsson :-)
Looks like a fishing line.. and is thinn as a fishing line.
Hej !
DANNE
Du hittar allt detta på ELFA, förutom cablen jag använder efter som det inte får att få tag på.. OK
:D
Det är inte så dyrt. värt att inhandla.
fast pennan går på ca 500 sek...
heavelly recomended is the Rework Wand... makes you solder like a pro.
a forgot, use thikker cable for 5v and for gnd i cut legs from resitor/condensator legs are harder and make a really nice and stable solder, it can hold the chip on place whit out glue :D
