Matrix Infinity v5 install - no video?

I just put a blue-dot MI in my friend's 30001 R v5. When I powered it on... nothing happened on the tv (the ps2 seemed to function properly, though). Immediately, i suspected that i'd mixed up the point I and point B on the back of the motherboard (i knoew from experience that shorting out point I will nix the signal to the TV).

So, i switched those two points and powered it on again. This time the tv screen flickered normally like it was about to show something...... but then I didn't get any video or audio.

Ideas on other points i can check first?

I had the same problem yesterday. I have a v5 and I put in an infinity (my first install ever and never soldiered before). I reset my console 3-4 times, still no video.

Check all points over again and if your wires aren't organized try to organize them, make sure they don't get caught under or close to the screws. Tug on all the points, on the board and the modchip, to make sure they are soldiered well.

I don't remember clearly, but I think the first time around I had my memory cards in, the second time I didn't have them in. Also I got my video back as soon as I turned my console vertically.

I'm not sure if the memory card thing, and the vertical thing have any effect, but I'm just telling you what I did. Now my console works every-which-way. ;)

I'd already checked my points with a multi-meter and all the connections seem ok. Turning it vertically didn't help. It still does the same thing. Any other ideas?

You got a firmware disc made? If not make it and try upgrading it. Leave it on for 5mins or so. See what happens.

How will that help the lack of video and audio from the ps2?

make sure you use 20awg wires for power and ground... and check fuses, cause i had the same problem on mine, had to replace some fuses...

i don't think its fuses. I think it has something to do with the ground?
I uninstalled the chip and noticed the same behavior, until I put some electrical tape over where I had attached the ground wire.... then the ps2 booted up normally.

After that I tried to re -install the chip, but i'm getting the same prob. I'll replace the ground and 3.3v and see whta happens

After disconnecting the chip, (but not any of the wires that i soldered to the ps2), the PS2 works normally. As a result, I have decided that the chip is most likely bad. (The controller port works fine).

This piece of junk is going back to mod-chip dot kom

Seems obvious, but did you have a controller plugged in when you tested the chip ?

The MI waits 15 seconds for you to install a controller!!

Also the most common cause of no video is to do with the BIOS pins so I would recheck that you have the correct ones connected up

I bought my infinity from mod-chip.com too and you have to flash it first! Read the instructions that they supplied.

I had the same problem 2 days ago. No firmware on the chip.

If you are shure everthings wired properly continue with the following:

Burn a CD with the latest firmware, put it in the drive, power on and push triangle + circle to perform the update.

What you two dont seem to understand is that a non-flashed chip will in no way cause a black screen. Black screens are caused from bridges/shorts or miss placed wires. Or in the case of the MI it will wait 10 seconds if you dont have a controller in port 1 before it boots leaving you with a black screen for those 10 seconds or until a controller is detected.

spedmetal, that's what I thought too. So I opened mine back up I tugged on all the wires, and especially the ones for the bios. When I closed it back up it started working. I made sure my bios wires were alright the first time. As I said, I reset my console 4-5 times when there was no video.

I think he should keep trying, instead of blaming it on the infinity.

I would never blame the chip,
I have only had one bad chip from the matrix team in over 50 installs

and that wasnt even an infinity but an MX4
and that was not a black screen but just wouldnt flash

I always blame the install first

I sent the chip back. PS2 works fine with all the wires still in it MINUS the chip.... so i doubt a bios bridge was my problem. (I tested for any using a multimeter)

There probably wasn't any firmware on the chip, but putting firmware CD's in the ps2 drive didn't seem to do anything. Always got the same blank, black screen. My friend will probably order a chip from modchipman.com as a replacement after he scrapes enough cash together.

Yes, I made sure there was a working controller in the port. It was my 3rd MI install, so i've been around the block once.
