I have a pstwo slim and burnt movies shrunk with dvd shrink and burnt with dvd decryptor on ritek dvd-r work perfect, the slims play them so its either a burning problem, media problem or laser problem.

Its a media thing, some will play and some wont, You just have to find out what works.

You can try ARMAX and use the dvd player on that, my friends slimline wouldnt work with my burnt movies so i just grabbed my armax, let me know if that works.

-Try making sure that the laser is going all the way back. my friends doesnt, but for some reason the armax i have gets it to work. but as soon as i reset it without the armax. boom the "insert game screen" a.k.a red screen of death

depends on what format you are trying to play them on
if its avi/svcd,then you can forget it,you need the ps2 dvix player for that,
downloadable from the net
other than that,ps2 play anything dvd, unless the ps2 is modded of course,in which case you need to put the ps2 in dvd mode, depending on which chip it is

I can never get my ps2 with armax to play any copied dvds or even divx.... I tried getting help via codejunkies forum but that closed down as they were getting too much abuse about the software being crap :D

But it plays "normal" dvd's no problem.

what does your armax cd look like? is it the new one that doesnt need a card in ?

as hursty said its the format that the burnt movie is in. remember guys the ps2/pstwo was not made to be a full solution to being your home dvd player it has a limited ability in that field. mowadays you can get a true dvd player for $40 that will play all formats.

Might help if you specified which modchip you have. Some modchips require you to do different things to get it to play movies. For example my PS2 with a DMS3 modchip requires you to reset the PS2 and hold down the square button on the controller in order to play a movie.

Just gotta new slim ps2 about a month ago. I don't yet have a mod for it (will get one soon as I can though), it does play backup movies ok. What I use to backup my movies is a not to expensive computer with a LG 4163B dvd recorder, software I use is anydvd + clonedvd. For blank dvd's I've used a few boxes of cheap no name 4x and 8x discs I got from a store where I used to live, most of which usually work well enough (I guess I missed the horror stores of other no names being crap), some maxell dvd+r work well, but just got them and havent tried many of them yet. One type that I found to be less than usefull are the memorex DVD+R DL's have had a 40% failure rate on these, which considering the cost is too expensive. Also got some DVD+R 16x speed and those have had a 100% failure rate on movies. They work ok as DVD-ROM but don't count on them for recording any movies on.
