View Full Version : How to use ps2 backups on rewritables with DMS4Pro (ToxicOS0.3) ?

I installed DMS4Pro (TOXIC OS0.3) with harddisk in a V9.
The owner is using the built-in HDLoader to copying games to hdd.
He did not want to burn the games on DVD-R or DVD+R , but on DVD Rewritable, because he only is using the disks once.
I know with the Crystal Chip and Matrix Infinity it is possible to install an extra wire to make that possible.
How can he use Rewritables with the DMS4Pro (ToxicOS0.3) ?
Do I have to install an extra wire ?
Or is it a limitation of the chip/firmware ?
Or does he have to burn the disk in another way ?
He burned it with DVDDecrypter.

I did not know that. Where can I find that in the rules ??
I already found the answer, connect the T wire.

Glad that you got it right.
The DMS rule use to be a sticky on the PS2 Modchips main page, but it seems to be gone now,Ill ask a mod if they still reinforce the rule.
Any way heres the rules: http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35630

I think it is strange that they would reject messages related to DMS chips.
We are talking here about Modchips in general.
It is good to talk about the differences.
It is not right to say, ok they have their own forums, so lets reject all messages about dms.
I can understand that the DMS forum, will reject message about the Matrix Infinity, but do not think it is right that a general forum like this, should reject messages related to DMS.

I can better understand it that:
- we don't like messages about clones
- we don't like messages about modchips which are able to play backup ps2 games

Thats not it at all,if you go back a few years and have a look at when the DMS4 chip was fisrt released Ps2-scene looked into it and found that most of the code used by it was stolen from other developers.
Also with the release of the dms Ezi the forum just sow a sworm of people who could get it working and DMS covering it up,thats when it was decided.

Don't burn on -RW's it will end up killing the laser...the unit was not made to read it

Nope, actually V9 and up machines are designed to run RWs.
You do need to solder an extra wire for the DMS4 to be able to deal with RWs.
And an extra tip, on a V9 with ToxicOS 0.3, there's a small bug which forces you to put the DVD-RW in the console, put it to standby and then next time you boot it, the RW will play (otherwise direct boot will give a RSOD with RWs).
Later,

Thanks for all the info.
By the way, I see that there is a sub-forum for DMS now ;-)

a) your not a mod
b) you make up rules that dont exist based on loose ambient chit chat you hear on these boards

the dms4 supports +rw without any changes. if you have any problems its probably with your lazer (+rw discs have a much lower reflectivity that +r discs, so the lazer might have some trouble reading it).

A) HypERSoniC I find it very strange you made 1,304 posts and yet you dont remember the sticky that was ontop of the PS2 Modchips section, but it was probebly a while ago and it is clearly not a rule any more...
I couldnt find the oreginal sticky but here N£TM£ÇH(A moderator) clearly states "go to the dms forums.. we DO NOT support dms related products here."
http://www.ps2-scene.org/forums/showthread.php?t=38028&highlight=dms
Yes this is from a old thread but I was never informed that they changed that rule,or atleast I missed the thread or something...
B) I know Im not a mod,and I never said I was.
Sorry If I ovended somebody.

We wouldn't have created a DMS forum if we didn't want people talking about it. There is some anti-DMS sentiment in regards to their business practices here but that should not discourage people from posting topics about their chips.

Sorry about the confusion xiaNaix.
PS I made the first post before the DMS Section was made, sorry again.

I wonder if they will be able to fix that...
the DMS, Crystal and Ghost2 are badly developed chips that only change apps (bios patch) in their upgrades and not the actual code (mecha patch).
For example:
If $ony releases another version of the mechacon, all these teams will release "v2" chips and will not be able to help you with a firmware upgrade, so you will be stuck with a heap of outdated chips.
The infinity and o2mod on the other hand support full flashing of all its algorythms.

i think its more security on the agenda rather than badly developed.
the only chip i am aware of that can update its logic is the SX based chips (magic, ice). all current gen mods work in the same way, the authentication logic is hard coded into the FPGA.
depending on the situation, it may be possible to add support for another console via flash. however, if the authentication logic needs to be changed, this will require a new chip revision.
As for the DVDRW issue, this will be fixed in the next version of ToxicOS (0.4)

yeah - the more updatable it is the easier to clone it - that is why its so easy to make infinity firmware compatible codes.

but thenagain, everyone has the ice code available so they do not need the other chips' hardware to rip their software...
i say the more updatable the safer the resellers' stock is

It's not just security from cloning. It's actually more to do with the laws in various countries. While in the US aren't in that big of a trouble, but places like in the UK with already a few precedented court cases in favour of $ony. I'm not exactly sure on the details of the court cases, but apparently direct patching of the ps2 bios in it's default sold state is diving below the line in certain contries. By not allowing a fully reprogrammable logic, they can argue that it is not 100% breach of the ps2's protection. I could be wrong, but that is how I understand it.
