Widescreen DVD Movies playing in Full Screen??

I seem to be having problems on my slim ps2 when playing Widescreen movies they always playback as Full screen for some reason. When I first had it I changed the Screen Ratio to Full Screen but now when I change it back to 4:3 or 16:9 it still plays the movie itself as Full Screen but on the browser screen it shows as the ratio that I have changed it to. I tried deleting the System Setup file that was saved on the memory card but that didn't alter anything. Its probably something pretty simple but I can't figure out what. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated. The console isn't modded in anyway.

it will only play a movie in wide screen if the movie is widescreen and only full screen if the movie is formated to full screen , some DVDz have both versions and some u can boy either or.

Cheers for the reply EspI69, it seems its just a few certain films. They play as widescreen on my stand alone DVD player but in fullscreen on the ps2

Maybe the DVD is open matte by default, and selecting widescreen covers the garbage area? I know the Clockwork Orange DVD is strange aspect-ratio-wise, it contains a 1.85:1 image, but is trimmed down to 1.33:1 (its correct ratio) by default.

its really strange with that aswell.. cause even though you set 4:3 in ps2 config.. it only appears to matter in gaming.. and with movies its all stretched.. quite annoying actually.. but then again.. thats what dvd players are for :P

u should read the ps2 manual!! :)

stop the movie, go into settings and change the aspect ratio. lol. good luck ;)
