I have a WD 120 External USB Hard Drive 2.0 USB and backwards compatible to 1.1. I formatted it with the Windows GUI and the ul_format but everytime I stick it in the PS2 and boot up the screen "Insert a USB Device" shows on the screen I left the USB Drive on for 20 min and restarted...... still cant find it.
Any Ideas? This is in a version 7 Fat PS2 Im waiting for swap disks for my PStwo slim so I can load the burned USBxtereme CD. Magic Swap 3.6 is capable of holding elf files Im trying to see if i can load the USB Extreme .elf to the drive and boot the magicswap 3.6+ to the elf and run xtreme off the USB hard drive... But I dont know if the drive is even compatable.
TIA

Ive tried that I formatted it with windows to NTSF then used ul_format to format it to FAT32 then retried formatting to NTFS then used the windows GUI foramt to FAT32
.... ill try it again I guess maybe ill leave it at NTFS and see if USBextreme can format it to FAT32 in the PS2

It didnt work Im beginning to think that maybe its not compatible. Last time Im trying a indepth format instead of a quick format to NTFS first maybe theres a secondary partition im not seeing it says I have 111.79 total 111.72 availible GB on my 120 GB the math does not look correct 120 / 1.024 is 117.18GB if im correct.

Ok, when you formatt a hdd you lose alot of space... my maxtor 120gb only has 114gb formatted.
Anyway, it may just be incompatiable... but the hdd MUST be formatted to fat32 in order for ps2 programs to read it (somebody correct me if I'm wrong).

ive formatted it in NTSC and FAT32 and nothing registers the USB Device Connected to it.... tomarrow ill try again and format it to FAT32 again.. if not my 120 Western Digital external USB can just store some backups for me. $60 was too good of a deal I guess, it was Close out at Office max last one they had still a good deal.

Yes, I got the same 120 western digital hard drive at an office max also. It was a discontinued product. It is probably the same 2.0 usb harddrive you have Histoplasmosis!!
